8 dollars profit per copy? You kiddin??? DJ Quik made no more than 6 dollars for "Trauma" and he was: rapper, producer, excutive producer.
Plus.. you need money to make music, if it's indipendent the artist gotta pay for a lot of things.. I mean like the studio time, etc... it ain't free.

If you have your own studio, you get eliminate that expense. Daz has his own pressing plant also but his latest releases have been through Koch. I would say Daz is one of the few artists that could put out a album with little coming out of pocket.
