DMX: underrated rapper
« on: October 29, 2007, 11:37:46 AM »
When this board first open in 2001, I think it would be the opposite, DMX would be considered overrated by most, especially after Callin' Out Names by Kurupt. But I saw his Greatest Hits (actually called The DEFintion of X: Pick of the Litter) and dude has some really good songs. 18 straight tracks of bangers and classics. I think X is currently highly underrated, as it's hard for an artist to put out a greatest hit CD and have it listenable straight through. Even some top line artist keep their Greatest hits to like 13 songs, or put in a bunch of fillers. X though, I think deserves some credit for a very solid career, and being one of the best artist post- 'Pac/B.I.G.

considering you were 9 when DMX came out, I take it you don't remember the effects he had on Hip-Hop. Get his first 3 albums, then lets talk.

I recently heard a DMX freestyle (with Percee P) from 91 and he fuckin mmurdered it, no wonder he got the unsigned hype award back then

And when he bacame big, he had his fair share of hits and quality music, don't think that could be denied

Agree 100%, underated he alway's comes hard his hook writing is underated too imo, almost every song of his he always does his own hook and always does his thing, and his first album is a classic

always liked X, but when I heard his greatest hits all in one (I own the first 2 albums but never went pass that) I had to say, damn, his had a very solid career. For a while he out shined Jigga during the Bling Era, and Jigga was the definition of the Bling Era, so DMX had something then.

It's been up before.. But can easily be said again: DMX is the best from the east, hands down. I love the track "Goodbye" from his new album "Year Of The Dog.. Again" along with "Life Be My Song". DMX got great content in his lyrics, like he shows on those 2 tracks and always be speaking that real shit.

said this so many times. His first two albums were near classics but after that each album has gradually got worse.

The truth, DMX murders shit. In my opinion his wordplay is nice as hell. Becuz he could say what everyone else does, but in a different way and make the shit flow. He's a fuckin' beast. And honestly I don't think he get's worser at all. He have not have improved since he started, but he sure as hell don't get weaker, in my honest fuckin' opinion.
