Author Topic: T.I. recording new CD while under house arrest (Hollywood Insider Exclusive)  (Read 544 times)

Rapper Clifford "T.I." Harris is working on a new studio album while under house arrest on pending gun charges, EW has exclusively learned.

A representative for the Grammy-winning artist, 27, says he has already completed six new tracks in a studio inside his Georgia home. T.I. hopes to release the disc, which he's calling Paper Trail, in September 2008. The album's title refers to the fact that T.I. is writing his new lyrics down — a practice he abandoned after his 2001 debut, I'm Serious. Each of his four subsequent albums, including this year's T.I. vs. T.I.P., was composed without the aid of pen or paper. "He wanted to take more time to really put something down [this time]," explains his rep.

T.I. was arrested last month in Atlanta after allegedly trying to purchase several unregistered machine guns and silencers. (A federal search of his home also allegedly turned up other firearms, which the law prohibits him from owning as a previously convicted felon.) The terms of his bail currently require him to remain inside his house at all times while awaiting trial, and strictly limit the number of guests who can visit him; this week, his attorneys withdrew their request to allow additional guests for a family meal on Thanksgiving.

Good to hear, but september is quite far away, seems like this news is comin a bit early :-\  Also good to hear he's writin shit down agian, hopefully that means more creativity & meaning in his lyrics than T.I Vs. T.I.P. showed.

T.I. Hard At Work On New LP, Paper Trail, While Under House Arrest

MC is writing down his rhymes again (hence album title), working with engineer cleared by authorities.
By Shaheem Reid

After going through most of his career without writing any of his rhymes down, T.I. has begun putting ink to pad again, inspiring his forthcoming album's title, Paper Trail.

According to his rep, T.I. is making the most out of his house arrest on gun charges by recording an album in his home studio.

While under house arrest, the MC faces very stiff restrictions from the court, including being banned from drinking alcohol and having all his visitors go through a background check and be subjected to a search by authorities. According to one of his representatives, his engineer was given clearance to visit Tip a week and a half ago, and the two began working immediately.

After writing his lyrics on paper for his first couple of albums, Tip decided to follow the practice of peers such as Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Ja Rule and compose rhymes in his head, never writing anything down. His rep says with this LP, he wanted to spend more time concentrating, hence the title Paper Trail.

The album probably won't be out until next year, and obviously it is too early to foretell who he will be working with. Some of the producers he has in mind still have to be cleared by the courts before they can enter his house, his rep said.

Meanwhile, Tip's Grand Hustle label will continue to churn out material.

DJ Drama — who had his own issues with authorities earlier this year (see "DJ Drama Speaks Out About Arrest: 'I Took The Fall For Hip-Hop' ") — releases his long-awaited official Gangsta Grillz LP on December 4; the first single is called "5000 Ones." T.I. is featured on the record along with Diddy, Yung Joc, Young Jeezy, Nelly, Twista and Willie the Kid.

Tip also has a cameo on Big Kuntry King's first single "That's Right"; the video recently debuted on T.I.'s social-networking Web site, streetcred.com. Big Kuntry's album My Turn to Eat, comes out in February. Meanwhile's Tip's longtime friend Yung Dro is in the studio as well. His sophomore LP, Yung & Restless, is due in May.

And although he's not directly signed to Grand Hustle, T.I. is also executive-producing the new LP from B.G., Too Hood to Be Hollywood. That project is tapped for early 2008.

i agree with dub & johnny, he probably decided 2 write his lyrics down since he's got some time on his hands
but i think it's a good idea..with the situation he's going through and him taking his time, should be dope shit :o

+1 tony for the additional info
good to hear his engineer got cleared
most sites are saying he stopped writing down his lyrics after 1st album, this was one says album(s). Wonder which is correct
it would suck if we lose out on dope collabo's because the court doesn't approve of a producer/rapper/singer to visit T.I. :-X

can't wait for both the drama & kuntry album..kinda fucked up that kuntry's video has debuted on the net, and drama's hasn't played anywhere, and his album is coming out like 2 months earlier, i smell a push back :-\

young dro is incredibly dope, can't wait for his new album..plus he droppin a mixtape/street album this winter 8)

What's up with all the tracks he did that did not make his last album that he was talking about?

who knows?
i'm sure he will include some of them if he wants
i don't think it's good to include to many of them though. Different time, different feeling's/mood's he was going through. Wouldn't mind to see 1 or 2 of them, but for the most part i hope he keeps it new material. Plus if he does go away for a long time, he can use those songs for future releases.

I say there is no time like the present. It's good he is still recording. Continue to work until word gets out about this case. I say package the new shit with the best of the other stuff from the last album and drop that shit.

I don't see TI having some kind of awakening and putting out an album with substance.  He'll just milk his situation with all kinds of played out cliche's and erratic goofy dance moves in his videos.  Prolly some sweet club bangers as well.
