what did you think of The Firm, Dres so called flop of an album...i know it isn't a Dre album but he had enough to do with it and it was considered flop...in my opinion i thought it is a tight album and everything fits together well and you really have to know what to expect when you make a cd like the firm...at first i didn't like it but when i really started to listen to it, and really started to pay attention how everything comes together i really began to understand it and respect it...back to what i originally said, how do you feel about The Firm album?

the firm album was a flop by dre's standards but still almost went gold. the biggest reason for the lack of a great album was twofold. one, labels and record companies battled to be on this.everyone had to get proper credit and be associated with the release of this album.it was a huge mess. there was 2 different executive producers, many producers, and a whopping seven labels/companies on the album. so as usual money problems involving joint label ventures gets pretty ugly.
secondly, dre's input wasn't near as much as it should have been.this record was created all over the country - ny,la,down south. dre really only worked in the studio with nas,az and foxy for a few weeks. it was impossible to get quality work done consistently.
my opinion of the album is this: it wasn't near as good as it could have been and it is better than most people give it credit for. "phone tap" is a classic dre production (with big help from mike elizondo and the glove).and the "intro/firm fiasco" was also a good dre production. the first 4 tracks on the album were what the album would have been like all the way through if dre had the time to put in the necessary work. with the little amount of time dre was able to work with the group a few dre tracks were basically replaying old songs - firm family, fuck somebody else, and five minutes to flush. they were good songs with a lot ofmusial instruments but these songs were not songs dre wanted to put out but basically had to put on the album to fill up space and complete the album.
so there you go.thats my opinion and the story behind the album. peace.

The Firm entered the charts at #1 and went platinum. You can look it up. And Dre said on Rap City that he spent 10 days on the album.
