December 4th Jay-Z’s birthday lives on as the release date of his acappella version of ‘American Gangster’ as well as the first song of ‘The Black Album’ (2003).

The latter “retirement” set is the only other official Jay-Z acappella release; it birthed offshoots like Danger Mouse’s (Gnarls Barkley) Jay-Z/The Beatles mash-up, ‘The Grey Album,’ and the Warner Bros./MTV venture ‘Collision Course,’ featuring “The God Emcee” and Linkin Park.

December 4th albums from Jay-Z’s Def Jam Records artist Ghostface along with Wyclef Jean and DJ Drama are also set to hit retail. There’s no word regarding potential remix projects, sanctioned or otherwise, as of press time.

Fellow hip hop torch bearer and Def Jam artist Nas will reportedly release his second controversial Def Jam LP, tentatively titled ‘Nigger,’ by fourth quarter’s end (December 31) although his project is not on the labels’ online release schedule as of press time (www.defjam.com).
