rakim and other clarifications
« on: June 23, 2001, 01:03:16 PM »
what's goin on? i've posted a few things the last few days, but before that i was gone from the board for 2 and a half weeks. during that time i was working really hard on a few non-aftermath projects. i had 15 hour work days almost everyday. i can't comment on any further on what i was doin except that i was real happy with the results. now after this weekend off its back to hard work on more important shit. i did want to clarify a reprt that OH MY GOD had not begun recording. that is FALSE. dre, melvin and rakim did record together a while back. and those sessions resulted in some truly great shit. however with dre's riduculously busy schedule its been a while since those recordings took place. rakim has been working real hard in new york writing lyrics and working with premo on their portion of the album. please be patient with the fact that dre really wants this album to be as good as anything he has ever done. dre will take whatever time is necessary is do it right. if you want a classic you need to give dre and rakim time to make it. the fact that the wash movie came up and then had its release date consequently moved up to this october did not help OH MY GOD. right now dre is concentrating on the truth hurts album, a few collabs, The wash soundtrack, and rakim. the order that they will come out is uncertain. in case you don't know dre and snoop were hoping to make the wash soundtrack their "break up to make up" reunion album. however, the pushing up of the soundtrack will only give snoop and dre time to do 3 to 5 tracks. when the schedule allows dre time to concentrate on OH MY GOD will determine how soon its released. when dre and rakim are truly able to focus in on the album, get in a groove, get into that "zone", they will be able to put together the undescribably incredible tracks they are capable of. the first recording sessions were kind of a feeling out process. when you get two legendary artists working together for the first time it doesn't come together overnight. they both have their own way of doing things and at first the egos will clash a bit, but in a good way. for these reasons its not easy to get started quickly. all things considered i loved the tracks they did during the first sessions enough to really get me pumped up. but after stepping back a bit and realizing the early stages of this duo working together wouldn't really click right away and could never come close to their potential dre wants to spend more time putting the final version together. dre believes in his heart (and so does everyone involved) that OH MY GOD can be so much better. and that is scarier than any horror movie. so please be patient and hang in there. like i said before we appreciate your support and promise that your support, faith and patience will be rewarded with some classic shit.

a few other clarifications from the past 2 weeks. one thing was the topic of whether dre or cube have more money. that was an odd question and meaningless but ill vagely answer it without getting too personal. there are 2 things i know for sure. one, cube is financially secure and living very comfortably. two, dre easily has more money than cube. a lot of rappers brag and talk shit about ice, bling-bling, their cars, money and other stupid materialistic bullshit. but these guys are peasants compared to people like dre. the only thing you need to know about dre's net worth is 9 figures. insert whatever 9 numbers you want. i hope this answers your question.
another clarification is about release dates. dre and other artists have no control over release dates. in dre's situation universal/interscope have the final say on any aftermath release date.  2001 was done months ahead of the actual release date. a dre album that differs was doggystyle. dre was only half done when the release date was pushed way up. dre has incredible creative and freedom on how he runs his company but universal decides the day an album gets released.
my two cents on a few other topics i saw : i love "music" by erick sermon and marvin gaye. thats how you use a sample creatively.
2 trio's i would love to see would be tupac, marvin gaye and dre as producer. or rakim, frank sinatra and dre as producer. 60's and 70's r&b/funk/soul music is some of the creative music ever made. there are way too many guys to name. i think you guys covered it on that post. i wish we could switch those artists with todays artists. like i said before, we listen to that stuff waaaay more than we listen to rap. so i urge anyone who hasn't listened to any of that 60's and 70's music to do so. you will be rewarded with classic music.
i've spent way too long on here today. i'll post again in a week or  so. my next topic will be about recording DETOX in 5.1. ill talk about this new way to record and the limitless ways we can take music to a new level. i'll also explain how we plan to use it. i get excited just talking about it. so until next week keep the peace and positivity on this board going. later.

Man, Tell Dre We Need Some Bullets Flyin' By Our Head In That 5.1.. LOL

HELL YEAH That Marvin Gaye Song Is Tight.  Ima Have To Go Review A Erick Sermon Album, For Shizzle.

And The Frank Sinatra, Dre, Rakim Album Would Be Tight. LOL

HEY, Just Do It.. Just Jack A Frank Sinatra Vocal From Somethin'... THATS LIFE WOULD BE PERFECT I Might Add..

Have Rakim Drop Some Gangsta Rhymes, With Frank On THe Hook Goin' "THATTTSS LIFFEEEE  (thatttssss lifeeeeeeee)"

I've Been Thinking Of Sampling Him For Months, LOL.

just wanted to get this thread back up for anyone who missed it the first time. i also wanted to talk about another clarification to something i read. tupac is now the biggest selling rap artist of all time? now you all know i love pac but that fact is a little goofy. all eyes on me and all of his releases after his death have been double albums.for some reason the riaa counts a double album as two units sold. so for every copy bought the artist gets credit for sales of two. so pac's numbers are a little slanted. all eyes on me didn't really sell as many as the original chronic or doggystyle. and pac's last release really hasn't even sold 2 million copies yet. biggie's last album went diamond but it is a double album so it really sold just over 5 million. so the title of biggest selling artist is unfair and kinda useless. it also only counts solo albums,so in the world of rap that shows only a fraction of an artists true impact or sales figures. and i am in no way lessoning pac and biggies achievements. they deserve all their recognition. but to put things in perspective if dre's 2001 album was a double album it would have sold almost 14 million copies. eminem would have sold close to 20 million albums and mc hammer would have sold OVER 20 million records if his smash album would have been double. so don't pay much attention to the "biggest selling" title.its unfair and doesn't mean much.

I was wonderin, Did Cypress Hills "Skull and Bones' Count as a souble CD? because all the songs could've been put on 1 CD...The whole CD is like 65 minutes long...

Eminem shoulda' made "MMLP" a double album...The tight songs as CD1 and the OK/Whack ones on CD2..LOl...Imagine how many time platinum he woulda' went...
