yeah, I remember back in the 80's and 90's, you go into neighborhoods and see all these shoes on the line, I was young and didn't know until later what it meant. The funny part, in some neighborhoods, the electric people would never take them down.

It's a mark to enhance the visibility of electric wires, for the sake of low flying air planes. Wasn't that obvious from the beginning?
