firstly - a big FUCK YOU goes out to FASTHOSTS.CO.UK we nearly never got all our board data back because of them being such cunts.

now read my little story

the situation was this....i was paying for the site from a guy i work with who was a 'reseller' for this company on the side. with all the problems i had (cgi timouts/site being down/busted cgi), they wouldnt talk to me, they had to talk to him (if i know he's got his kid or whatever for the weekend theres no way i'm disturbing the guy - ya know?) etc etc... now.. yesterday they decided that the board was using too many resources and without any notice they locked out his (and all his customers) access. they are demanding that he pay 500 quid each month for the next 3 months (until the review the situation) to get going again whether the board goes or not. (it only cost him 500 quid to set up for the year). Plus they said they couldnt transfer the domain hosting or board to another active reseller account without losing the data.

This board accounted for 99.999% of that bandwidth.
They wouldnt let him have his shit back without paying that amount -even if I left. he's not paying the 500 quid, he wants to cancel.. - BUT if he cancels they delete all his sites... problem being the board would have gone, so he held off until i could get my data... i phoned them a few times until they started hanging up on me. they said the wouldnt let him have it until he agreed to pay the 500 a month. basically the shit was being held to ransom.

luckily between us we worked out a way to 'steal' the board from the server (i could never get it properly secure there) - i took the afternoon off (feelin a bit ill anyways) and it took me an hour with a text editor (ultraedit) and a batch download proggie to steal the whole thing, plus another hour to get the board working on the new server.

tip : search the web and check out the host before you sign up

now on to the good stuff....

- our hosting is now provided by the same people that make this board software (x-null)

- the new host will handle 3 times the (alleged) amount of bandwidth that got us booted from fasthosts - when we last looked at the stats it was shifting half that figure. - we havent grown that much. so it may be closer to six times that the new host can handle  

- we will never ever have those cgi timeouts again

- plus i have a few other tricks up my sleeve  

as far as I can tell everything is intact. the only thing is a few people may have lost their private message box contents.

also the server is now in america, so adjust your user profile so the times are right.

oh i figured out the problem, before you go to any old threads you must log in because since the site changed it logged you out, so if you log in than the problem won't occur, peace.
