K.Dub's Summary of 2007
« on: January 15, 2008, 01:00:09 PM »
I know there's been plenty of threads like these (some started shwowin up in like September), but they're kinda old and I'm too lazy to search for them. So I though what the hell, I'mma start my own thread.
First, I'm gon let u know my top 10 releases of last year (obviously), then there's the releases who didn't make the cut, but still were dope. And at last, my disapointments of 07. Keep in mind that there's only the first category which is numbered, the rest is random listing.
Now I haven't seperated into "major", "indie", "mixtape/street album", "r&b/soul" and that kinda bullshit - they're all mixed.

Here we go

My top 10 of 2007
1. Cunninlynguists "Dirty Acres"

2. Chamillionaire "Ultimate Victory"

3. UGK "Underground Kingz"

4. Kanye West "Graduation"

4. Trae "Life Goes On"

6. Scarface "Made"

7. MadCon "So Dark The Con Of Man"

8. Alicia Keys "As I Am"

9. Tank "Sex, Love & Pain"

10. Joe Budden "Mood Muzik 3 - For Better or for Worse"

As y'all see, the south's been running this shit!

Releases that didn't make the top 10, but are still dope:
- Jody Breeze "Best Kept Secret 3 - Georgia Muscle Six"
- Joell Ortiz "The Brick: Bodega Chronicles"
- Young Buck "Buck The World"
- Spice 1 & Jayo Felony "Criminal Intent"
- R. Kelly "Double Up"
- Common "Finding Forever"
- Hell Rell "For The Hell Of It"
- Kevin Michael "Kevin Michael"
- Lil' Wayne "Da Drought 3"
- Dipset "More Than Music 2"
- Z-Ro "King Of Tha Ghetto 2K7 : Power"
- Cam'ron "Public Enemy #1"
- Plies "The Real Testament"
- Redman "Red Gone Wild - Thee Album"
- Rich Boy "Rich Boy"
- Army Of The Pharaohs "Ritual Of Battle"
- Atmosphere "Strictly Leakage"
- Atmosphere's "Sad Clown Bad..." series, 9, 10 & 11
- T.I. "T.I. Vs. T.I.P."
- Devin The Dude "Waitin' To Inhale"
- U.S.D.A. "Cold Summer"
- Blu & Exile "Below The Heavens"
- Talib Kweli "Ear Drum"
- Hell Rell "Eat With Me Or Eat A Box Of Bullets"
- J.R. Writer "Writer's Block", 3 & 4
- Evidence "The Weatherman LP"
- 40 Cal "Broken Safety 2"
- 40 Cal "Trigger Happy" 1 & 2
- Quan "Black Gangsta"
- Lupe Fiasco "The Cool"
- Little Brother "Get Back"
- WC "Guilty By Affiliation"
- Sean P "Hood Anthems"
- Sean Price "Jesus Price Superstar"
- Ken Ring "Äntligen Hemma"
- Chamillionaire "Mixtape Messiah 3"
- Saigon "Moral Of The Story"
- J. Holiday "Back Of My Lac"
(The highlighted ones are the best)

Disappointments of 2007
- DJ Drama "Gangsta Grillz (The Album)"
- Freeway "Free At Last"
- 50 Cent "Curtis"
- Jay-Z "American Gangster"
- DJ Khaled "We The Best"
- Fabolous "From Nothin' To Somethin'"
- Bone Thugs-N-Harmony "Strength & Loyalty"
- Boyz N Da Hood "Back Up In Da Chevy"
- GhostFace Killah "The Big Doe Rehab"
- Freeky Zeeky "Book Of Ezekiel"
- Wyclef Jean "Carnival Vol. II, Memoirs Of An Immigrant"
- Styles P. "Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman)"
- Lil' Flip "I Need Mine $$"
- Wu-Tang Clan "8 Diagrams"
- Timbaland "Shock Value"
- Bobby Valentino "Special Occasion"
(R. Kelly's and T.I.'s album could've actually made this list. Had mad hopes for their albums)

So, there ya go. 2007 was a good year for me.

7. MadCon "So Dark The Con Of Man"

lol
Ain't peeped it yet, due to the annoying single.. is the album different than the single ?

Disappointments of 2007
- Jay-Z "American Gangster"
- Bone Thugs-N-Harmony "Strength & Loyalty"
- Styles P. "Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman)"
- Wu-Tang Clan "8 Diagrams"
- Timbaland "Shock Value"

I strongly disagree, Jay was easily top 5 as always, Bone was surprisingly good, and the Styles album was heated, maybe his best.

Wu was what it is, pretty cool, nothing spectacular, and Timbo did what he does best; dope ass beats witch catchy hooks, r'n'b/techno/pop with the occasional hiphop nod.. seems like some people expected something else..

Scarface was actually a little disappointing for once, imo. (Compared to what he usually brings), and Kanye albums bore me after 5-6 listens..

But still; one of the better lists, with a few refreshing (and odd?  :D) choices..

Yeah, I expected better.

Hehe, The album is dope - they take it to another level, they're not like that typical Norwegian rap.
Well, Beggin' was certainly a stand out track, but I like that aswell - but it starts to get a lil bit overplayed now.
Back On The Road with Vinni is cool, have u heard that?

Disappointments of 2007

But still; one of the better lists, with a few refreshing (and odd?  :D) choices..

Jay's album bored the hell outta me, a couple of good tracks which I'll play again though.
Bone's album - it seems like it's forced and that Lil' L.O.V.E. is super wack - Streets is my fave though.
Styles - hmm, nah - it bored me too, lol, and the beats were bad, imo..
Wu Tang, yes.. a handful of good tracks, but if the record was maybe 6 tracks shorter it woulda made the list above.
And Timbo's... well - it sounds, no it IS a compilation, not an album.

I just started to bump Scarface - it's dope as fuck. Good ol' Face.

Thanks, man, but what odd choices? :D

cant believe you thought BIG DOE REHAB was a dissapointment?  damn!  Even tho the Timbo album IS a compilation, I was very impressed with it, not dissapointed.  Good thread tho, good read.
