Def Jam To Drop Nas? (Media Take Out Report)
« on: January 23, 2008, 08:12:53 PM »
Normally, I'd dismiss this. But MTO's been proven right quite a few times lately, like Gangstaboogy said last week.

http://www.mediatakeout.com/21187/def_jam_prepares_to_drop_platinum_selling_rapper_nas.html

January 23, 2008. We're hearing some crazy talk coming out of Def Jam's offices this week. According to one of MediaTakeOut.com's trusted insiders, the top label is actually considering dropping Nas.

According to our insider, the trouble is over the naming of Nas' new album. You see, Nas is refusing to change the name of his new album (which is tentatively called, the N-Word) - and that has the label's top brass furious. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "There is no way that we can put out an album with that title. Many retailers have already told us - flat out - that they won't carry [an album with that title] ... Nas' last album [Hip Hop Is Dead] sold pretty well, but not well enough for the headache he's causing [the label]."

And there's more. Our insider claims that there should be an announcement coming from the label this week. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "If Nas doesn't change his mind, he'll be dropped. And he doesn't have to much time to come to that realization."

If it comes to choosing between being dropped or changing the title, I am hoping that he changes the title. None of us are feeding his kids - keep the job bro.

Fuck def jam in the Ass if this is true..(No vasaline)
What a bunch of cowards.

Lables Fuck up albums all the time by their refusal to release shit that is on the edge.
Shit, MoTown almost fucked up "What's going On" (Not comparing Nas To Marvin, but..)

If Jigga got to release that (Only heard it once album "American Gangster" then Nas Should be able to release his Shit)
Then again, I'm not the label losing or making money, being extorted by the Gov.

I can understand the title name to try and garner some attention, and it would be nice if he would drop some knowledge in the album also, but to the extent to have your label drop you? Nah, change the title and find another way to prove your point.

That's what I'm saying... Hip-Hop needs for real artists like Nas to stay on majors and off the indy circuit. Can't let the Souljah Weenies of the world take over.

he could spell the title backwarts, reggin  ;) something like NWA did with their 2nd album.

but it's just a title, i don't really care how it's going to be called, i'm more interested in the music offcourse  ;)

i don't think he'll change the title, even if he gets dropped.  someone will pick him up, especially with all the hype he's created so far.

^ I don't know... if retailers are pitching a bitch, then I don't think another major would want to touch it.
