Thanks for the quick hook-up!Me being the fan that I am, I have to admit that I've got mixed feelings about this song. After a first listen, the song sounds pretty good: the beat is knocking (thumping bass, nice background effects, etc...) and decent lyrics by Omar. But I don't really know about the chorus. I like it, but I'm not too sure whether this is the type of thing that will appeal to other audiences.Let's face it: with Omar being on Interscope/Geffen, they're aiming at having good record sales. But I just don't see this song blowing up. I don't think it has enough "catchiness" to it (jeez, I sound like some CEO, lol). It doesn't really make an impact on the listener (at least not after a first spin), whereas Omar & Game's song "Powerhouse" did have that massive impact on me. The beat, the chorus, the overall vibe of the song: that shit was hot.Just to make it clear: the song is good, it definitely sounds like album material and I'm sure it'll grow on me even more, but for now I don't think it's a wise choice to use this as a first single. Just my opinion...P.S.: I might add that me personally don't really care about record sales. All I'm really interested in is having a solid album to listen to. But, we all know this: when you're on a major label, there has to be SOME commercial potential in it.
I've spun it like 6-7 times now, and i think it's a great choice as a single. BYI's stuck in a sticky situation where they need to keep it West Coast to please their fan base, but they need to appeal to the mainstream as well since they're on a major. This is a good start in my opinion. Notice how I said "what may quite possibly be the first single"? This isn't officially the first single just yet. Regardless, it's a tight ass track!
Other than the beat which is really dope ( I bet Game picked it), everything else is average. Don't know what the big deal about Omar Cruz is, he doesn't seem anything outstanding but I've only heard a song or two from him.
