Who do you think has more money? Cube or Dre?
« on: June 04, 2001, 11:13:55 PM »
The easy answer would be Dre with the incredible success he has had of late.  But then you gotta think about what Cube has done.....

I'd say Ice Cube has proved to be the better business man over the years.

For instance:
Ice Cube was the only one smart enough to get his NWA contract looked over by a lawyer and consequently left the group because he saw he was being cheated.  Dre later admitted that he should have followed suit and not signed the new NWA contract.

Cube then went on to star in Boyz in the hood and drop platinum record after platinum record.  His list of movies also include, Glass Shield, Anaconda, Players Club, Friday, Next Friday, Higher learning, that gulf war movie, that movie with Elizabeth Hurley, and I'm sure a ton more I just can't think of.

Basically Cube has never dropped an album that didn't sell well and he has appeared in a ton of movies, and owns his own record label and production company.

Dre on the other hand got shafted in his early N.W.A days and then went on to BIG things at Deathrow only to leave Deathrow without anything near what he deserved.  It is only now that Dre is his own boss and truely brining in the cash.

So who do you think has more $$$$$?????

I vote still goes to Dre.  But I really wouldn't be surprised if Cube actually has more dough!

Cube has more money. He has done more movies than Cube. You know how many millions they probably paid him to do Three Kings? Plus Next Friday was the number one movie a couple years back.

Dre may have more now since Aftermath has blown up.

I think they are damn near even.

LOL... Yall All Misspelled Funny Stuff... Like NOW I KNOW Said "That's Why Dre WAnts To Start Music....".... ? He's A Musician.... And B Dogg Said... (Cube) Has Done More Movies Than Cube...

I Aint' Trippin', It's Just Funny That Everybody Switched 'Em Up... LOL....

I Agree, It's CLOSE...

Dre's Got A House, And A Car.. That's About All He Had When He Left Deathrow... Then He's Got Probably About a 5 Mil Advance For The Aftermath Comp,... He Probably Spent Any Profits From That On Studio Time, Etc., But Maybe Invested The Advance?  They Had To Have Given Him Something When He Signed With Interscope...

Then he's Got BIG Bucks Off Eminem's 2 Joints... Probably To The Tune Of 10 Million An Album....

Then He's Probably Made 15-20 Million Off 2001, And The Instrumental Album

The He Probably Pulled In Another 20 On The Tour...

Add In About 100 G's Royalties For Every Song He's Produced Outside His Camp Since, Plus Royalties For "Bag Lady" By Erykah Badu... That's Probably Another 4-5 Million...

On The Other Hand, Cube's HAD Money... On The Player's Club Alone, He Probably Made 5 Or So, Next Friday Probably Raked In 10-15 For Him, And The OG Friday Probably Made Him 20 Or So (HUGE Video Sales)... Add In 2 Million Or More For Each Album, Plus Tour Money (He Tours Alot)... Plus The Westside Connect Album, Royalties Off Partial Ownership Of The Short khop Rights... (Not Much Sales )...

I'd Say It's REAL Close... Dre's Got A Ton, And I've Heard Him Insinuate That He Had 100 Million Dollars Before (9 Figures, He Mentions It All The Time)... So I Dunno... I'd Have To Go With Cube, Because He's REALLY Smart, And Probably Invested It All, Whereas Dre's Money Is All New....

Hey all,
Its Dre....
Cube is good in all, but he hasnt really made alot of money from his last few releases.  yeah he makes money from his movies, but it is in the hundres of thousands not millions.  He probably made a few Millions of his friday movies, and i say around like 20Million from both movies combined maybe...when u factor in the cost, and how much New Line Cinema gets......I believe last time i read, Cube pulls in between $400,000- 700,000 a movie.
thats some change..dont get me wrong.

But, with Dre in january figures came out that just for HIS 2001 CD, he mad $73,000,000 Million dollars......Just from his 2001 cd...........the up in smoke tour he made like $24,000,0000.

Eminem made $143,000,000 Million from his CD....and you know Dre gets a percentage of each sale of Em's CD.

I heard that Dre charges up to $100,000 per track depending on who you are.
6 songs will equal what Cube made for a movie.

Dre by a long shot.......and all the royalties he is still raking in, and the figure he just singed with Universal to stay with them.........

Point Match Serve
Dre.

Hmm... I Agree With Some Of That, Although I'm Confused By Your Logic... You Say Cube DOESNT Make A Bunch Of Money, Because He Has To Pay New Line Cinemas, And Bills, But Then Just Blanket Say Dre Made 73 Mill Off Of His Last Album, And Apparently Didn't Have To Pay Anybody... .Hmm.....

For One, Cube Wrote And Starred In Next Friday, As Well AS Exec Producing It.  That Means He Used His Money, Along With New Line Cinemas.  The Movie (Next Friday) Worldwide Probably Did AT LEAST 50 Million In Box Office Sales, Not To Mention Home Video Sales, Plus Sales To Blockbuster, HBO, Cinemax, Etc.... You've GOT To Believe He Made AT LEAST 10 Percent Of That... That'd Be 5-10 Million AT LEAST... I'd Say It's More Like 20 Million, But I'll Just Be Conservative...

On The Other Hand, Dre Sold Wha, 6 Million Copies In America Of 2001?  Well, Since I Can Buy It For 11.99 The Day It Comes Out, You KNOW They Must Be Charging 10 Bucks, Probably WAY Less To Distributors, So They Can Make Theres Too.  We'll Say He Got 9 Bucks For Each Cd.

That's Only 54 Million GROSS For The USA, Double It For Worldwide, So Maybe 100 Million? Then He's Got To Pay Interscope, The Distributors, Plus Royalties.... I Just Don't See Him Pulling In 73 Million On 1 Cd, Whenever You Got Peeps Like Courtney Love (The Band Hole, Who Sold About 2 million Copies Of Their Last CD) Bitching That She Lost Money On The Album....

Michael Jackson's Always Bragging That He Has The Best Artist Deal, And Gets 3 Dollars Per Cd.  Now, Maybe Dre Gets 5, Owning The Company...

I Dunno, I'm Just Babbling, Thinking Outloud LOL

OH, Another Thing... Cube's Had 3 Plat Albums In The Last 3 Years (Including Bow Down)... Dre's Had 1 6X Plat... That Would Mean Just Off Album Sales, Cube Has Half What Dre Does, Plus Cube Has Revenues From His Movies, PLUS, Cube KEPT The Money He Made In The 90's, Unlike Dre, Who Was Penniless In '96.

OH, PLUS, Your Numbers Are Obviously Skewed.  How Can Em Make Twice What Dre Made, When According To Soundscan, Em Only Sold 15% More Records Than Dre? ....

but trauma i am talking on a worldwide sales basis....dre has made alot more money off of em and his own cd.  probably more than cubes last few releases.......
and those figures came from MTV awhile ago about how much dre and em made.

cube has made some moves, but just in the last year Dre has done way too much....
and that new contract dre just signed.....i think would put him over the top........

I dont know how much Dre made from Em's first CD also.....

Yeah, But At The Same Time, CUBE'S On A Worldwide Basis!  3 Kings Was HUGE, Friday Is The #1 Selling RENTAL VIDEO OF ALL TIME!!! (Ask, Next Time You're At Blockbuster, They'll Tell You)., And Next Friday Did All Kinds Of Money.

I Just Think It's Not Cut And Dry... Maybe Dre Has More, But It Ain't That Obvious.

I'd Say The Money Dre Made off 2001, Would Be Equaled By The Money Cube Made Off Friday (I'm Telling You, He Got Rich Off Rentals, and Video Sales)... Come On The Movie's Even On T.V., They Pay For That...

The Money Dre Made off His Portion Of Em's MMLP, Would Be Equalled By The Money Cube Made Off Next Friday (Tix Sales, Rentals, Movie Sales, Licensing, Etc.)

Then The Money Cube Made Off 3 Kings, And The Players Club, Might (I Dunno) Equal What Dre Made Off His Involvement on The SSLP....

THEN, Remember Cube Had
Peace
War
The Playas Club Soundtrack
Bow Down
Friday Soundtrack
Next Friday Soundtrack
Anaconda (Movie)

He Probably STILL Gets Royalties From Boyz In The Hood, Another HUGE Movie...

I'm Just Saying, Cube's Money Runs DEEP.

I don't know why most peep get uptite about Dre getting shit for quiting Deathrow. The guy maybe made the company millions but he did quit. For e.g if you worked in McDonalds and said to the manager that's it I quit, where's my $1000 for quiting. I know the position ain't the same as the one Dre was in but it's what it was like. He quit a company and wants paid for quiting.

Anyway I think Cube got more money. He has made tons of films and lots of his albums have gone at least double platinum where-as Dre has got his own company and an album which can't come no-where near cubes amount of money. Dre making $73 mill, bullshit. That guy ain't that popular to make that enough money and if he has then it must have been through Amerikan sales cause he pretty much disliked by a lot of people over here in the UK.
