Do You Still Think Kobe Was Wrong?
« on: February 01, 2008, 05:24:56 PM »
Considering Mitch Kupchak actually moved his ass for the first time and pulled two great deals for Ariza and now Pau Gasol, do you still think what Kobe did this past off season was wrong? Seriously, now?

LOL. who said it? Great players do great things. 8)

who likes losing? cant blame the man. What really made me a true fan of Kobe is how he said fuck it at the start of the season and rode with the team he was dealt with. Encouraging the youngsters and just leading by example and not draggin the shit out in the media.

Well, Kobe is lucky that Jerry West is basically a con artist. Mitch has very little to do with the Memphis trade.

Ummm, it wasn't Jerry Wests decision...But speaking of con artists, I didn't see you saying anything about McHale trading KG to Boston. :-X

He wanted to ship Bynum Out tho, That's What I Mean..
As far As Sparking his ass, yeah...
But Kobe wanted KG/Kidd here in L.A., And Bynum Was gone if Kobe could have pulled the trigger.
So IMO, Kobe Was Wrong with Bynum.

At the time, Bynum wasn't on par with Kidd...But Kobe obviously did something to instill some passion in Bynum. Either prove that you belong here, or you're getting shipped. I originally thought that was the best thing to come out of his comments, but I guess I was wrong. 8)

Was Kobe's summer outburst worth it?

First of all let me say this, I don't agree with players openly making GM type statements UNLESS you've given you're full dedication but couldn't get met half way. I respected Paul Pierce for saying "get me some veteran help or trade me" cuz he went to war for his franchise for years but they just wouldn't properly build around him. Then came Ray Allen...which led to Garnett...which led to good role players such as Posey, House, and Pollard.

Now as far as Kobe, he took it to the extreme. He had all of us fans scared, he had the front office pulling their hair, and he had our roster confused. Everyone automatically jumped on his case and said he ruined this franchise. Since then...

+ Bynum admitted that the Kobe video lit a fire under him and made him want to step his game up to be the player Kobe needs

+ Farmar said the whole thing inspired him to stay in the gym and improve his game

+ We decided to NOT re-sign Smush Parker

+ We FINALLY used our MLE wisely and brought Derek Fisher back

+ We traded Brian Cook + Maurice Evans for Trevor Ariza

+ We turned water into fine wine: Kwame Brown + Javaris Cirttenton for Pau Gasol

It may not have been pretty but I think Kobe's attitude woke the front office up and made them stay the fuck away from mediocre players because of their small contracts.

I can't believe Gasol is on the Lakers. I need to watch a game and see him play with my own eyes. It's like a dream come true. Amazing!

Lakers>rest of the NBA

If you really think the Grizziles were not able to get a much better deal for Gasol, you need help.

The KG trade was a much better trade. At least they got a truly good player in Jefferson, and everyone else they also use. Kwame and McKie are trash and their only purpose is to handle salary cap stuff. Also, KG REALLY needed to be traded, Gasol on the other hand had no chance to opt out or anything, and also not the empathy that KG rightfully had.

Ummm...the Grizzlies didn't pass up on Andrew Bynum+Lamar Odom, like the T-Wolves did...I don't think many teams were offering two first round picks along with an exceptional prospect AND an expiring contract for Gasol....Oh yea, AND Marc Gasol, who is rippin it up overseas. Remember, the Grizzlies are going with a youth movement...In a couple years, they'll have a line up of something like:

PG Mike Conley...Kyle Lowry
SG Javaris Crittenton...Juan Carlos Navarro
SF Rudy Gay...Mike Miller
PF Hakim Warrick...Andre Brown
C Marc Gasol...Darko Milicic
