Aftermath update from the frontlines
« on: June 03, 2001, 02:01:33 AM »
whats goin on y'all. since i was preoccupied the last few times i posted i wanted to give y'all some fresh news and perspective. some of this news may already be out so i apologize if i repeat anything. some new dre collabs include busta rhymes (finally), faith evans?, and the big man shaquille o'neal. dre has added a 4th film to his current workload.he will contribute to the score and soundtrack of eminem's new movie, loosely based on em's life.this movie has some a big name studio, writer, producer and director. the musical work will not begin til next year. the Diablo soundtrack, due in 2002 has dre shifting most of the remaining responsibilty to mel man. The wash, starring and directed by dre is going well and is due out next year. i haven't been on the set yet but this will be a great comedy, trust me. dre has the small role in denzel washingtons next film,as well. expect dre to really concentrate on directing and scoring movies in the coming years. he'll do some acting as well as doing more and more soundtracks. directing, producing and scoring big budget, big studio films is one of dre's few remaining dreams left to accomplish. dre wants to become a MAJOR Hollywood player in films in the coming years.
one downside to dre's busy schedule is his lack of involvement with former inmates. but like dre did with snoop he's doing with kurupt, daz, rbx, nate dogg, etc, dre is now a proud papa to these guys.he gave them their first big break, got them started and helped them grow as men and artists. now dre's letting these guys handle their own business and become men on their own. dre feels these guys are builing strong careers and dont need him to sell records.that being said, dre will always be there for them in anything they need. but i promise, he will work them all again. a upside to dre's schedule is that mel-man is getting more and more responsibilty in many projects. its melvin's time to step up and showcase his incredible skills and as you will see he WILL come through. of the many, many producers dre has groomed melman may end up being the best. along with fred wreck, melman is the top upcoming producer on the west coast.
quick aftermath hits: no new news on hittman(sorry). i talked about rakim last week. the truth's album has picked up steam in the last month or so with help of a surprise producer.dre's final solo joint is a year or two away. and kokane's album has got off to a strong start. look for a lot of impin and pimpin in the vocals and production. and diallo and wash soundtracks are due in 2002.
to close this post i want to issue a heartfelt thanks for all your support and patience. i know your fiending for some of these albums. just hang in there and you will be rewarded. we have a lot of incredibly dope shit to put out in the near future. but aftermath ain't gonna go the way of most artists and labels and throw shit out. EVERY release will be as good as we can make it. your hard earned money should not be wasted on half-ass efforts. our promise to you is that we are putting our heart and souls into the music to make sure your incredible support is rewarded. so hang in there and we'll reward y'all with some classic shit from dre and aftermath real soon. thanks again.

P.S.
imma post 2 more topics this morning. sorry to hit y'all up at once but i might not post for a while. sorry if my long winded posts go on too long. i just love to get on the internet once in a while and let y'all into our world. and as you can tell sometimes i have a hard time controlling my excitement and passion. but music is my life and im just truly amazed by the music we're making right now and i can't wait to share it with you.  i apologize but i have to go deep undercover underground for a while. our release goals are fast approaching so i have a lot of work to do. so after today i wont talk to you for a while. keep the peace goin, the music booming and the funk stinky. later.

bigjake, my purpose on this board is to offer some news and perspective from the frontlines. my purpose is not to take inquiries from people wanting to hook up with aftermath. there are times and avenues to address hopefuls like yourself. right now we really aren't paying any attention to demos. we're too busy with our current projects. usually the demos we give credence to were given to us by people in the business or people associated with our label. i would suggest that you try other avenues. you can send your demos to the intercope home office in la and send it to our attention. but it is very unlikely your demo will be heard by us. my advice is to you is to really tighten up your beats and make as many quality ones as you can.  once you have 20 or 30 tracks start at smaller or independant labels or even online there are a few places to have your music heard like farmclub.com and mp3.com. unfortunately you must pay your dues and start off small.it is virtually impossible to start off and get to the top right off the bat. it is really hard and takes luck and getting your demos heard by the right people. and that won't happen if you go to the big labels and companies first. especially if you haven't released an album or have a full album ready. it just doesn't work that way. dont give up and work as hard as you can. i'm sorry i cant help you more but i hope you understand. dont give up on your dream but use common sense and keep the perspective that you probably wont make it. a lot of people spend their whole lives trying to get a record deal and waste their life away. just use your head. good luck to you bigjake. now my day of rest is over and some important weeks of long days and hard work lay ahead. peace.
