H20 Proof and I argue about this all the time.Help
« on: May 16, 2001, 01:03:42 PM »
I hear it all the time, usually when reffering to Eminem but lets keep this topic general, "Teeny Boppers listen to him so it makes me not want to like him."

I hear that all the time.  My homeboy H20 Proof and I argue about this all the time.  He'll get mad when he see's 6th grade girls or other white nerds listening to Slim Shady or dressing like their hip-hop.  He's like, "This is why white people get a bad name when it comes to hip-hop."  H20 would rather see artists stay underground and not sell records so only the hip-hop heads would listen to them and know about them.  But at the same time he gets mad when his girl can't contemplate a Rass Kass verse.

My side of the argument is this...     Look at Rass Kass for example.  Maybe if his first two albums would have both gone platinum, and maybe if he would have had some fans that were so-called teenyboppers, or geeky ass white boys, his Van Gogh album wouldn't be caught up in red tape right now.  I always want my favorite artists to have as many fans as possible even if they are teenyboppers, because that will keep them releasing albums.  If D-12 doesn't sell multiplatinum and more, we may never see another D-12 album, so I'm happy when I see a 10 year old girl giggling saying 'Detroit What.'  And if someone alot different from me listens to what I listen to it gives us some common ground.

Besides I think that music is universal and it shouldn't just be for the hip-hop heads.

Which side are you all on.  Does it make you not like someone if they blow up?  Would you rather keep things on the underground?  Do you believe that like H20 says that the more and artists sells, the more they start to fall off?  Cause I don't believe that line of thinking.

The only thing I get scared about is like if Snoop blew up in this country and everyone became a huge Snoop fan
I would be there like NO SNOOP IS MINE
It would take my whole identity away

I know that's strange but I'm a Snoop groupie LOL

I agree with h20 proof but i do respect your opinion infinite. im jus an underground mu-fucka lol

the thing with me is, i hate it when i like music from when it was not popular, then when it goes popular people think your just on the bandwagon. i still like the music i just feel uncomfortable talking about it with people i know dont know shit about it (ie teeny boppers)

its cool the artists are selling more, but it gets out of proportion. in eminems case i am just sick of his face, his voice, his name. its just pop now, and im soooo anti-pop.
but if eminem says fuck mtv and does a str8 up hardcore mc album next time, not dissing britney spears or anyone, i will forgive him.

so yea, i like shit to sell, but i wish the artists would stay true to their underground roots and still make hard shit, not just stuff they think would sell.

hope that makes sense

My brother is the same way ... he loves mainstream shit even if it sucks, and a lot of it does, so he goes around with liking Nelly and DMX and of course Snoop, but when i tell him to turn it off he just says I'm ridin Snoop and hating on others, now I don't hate Nelly, but I do hate DMX ... he seriously can't rap in my mind and his rhymes are too simple and thats why everyone loves him cause there are too many dumb people who can't understand deeper thought in rhymes. I'll bang a Kam or MC Ren album and my brother is like this shit sucks, how can you listen to this ... well i listen to lyrics more than anything ... my brother just wants a club beat that he can bump in the car ... it's all confusing ... he just bought the shyne album ... good rapper ... boring as hell to listen too though in my mind. He says "listen to that beat" and I say ... if you like the beat then you don't like shyne cause he didn't make the beat ...

I'm all for an artist selling records if he stays as tight as when he first came out.  Lets take Eminem for example all his shit was unbelievable when he first came up.  Now hes starting to get mainstream and he might not be as hungry as he was once before, where is his motivation.  Now hes just hit and miss on songs he been putting on lately.  And yes I do fucken hate it when teenyboppers listen to say Eminem or Outkast because they have no fucken idea what they are talking about. They just say "ohhhh I like that fast bombs over baghdad beat" fuck teenyboppers!!!

Someone name someone for me that keeps selling records but hasnt fallen off, and dont say snoop

In my opinion Outkast hasn't gone commercial. There shit is as funky as eva.

I personally can't stand people riding a artist dick cause alot of people like them. To me it shows they have no originality and they can't handle standing for somethiin they believe.

Yo Assasin, I believe the opposite of what you just said.  I think when people go back and forth on whether they like an artist like my boy H20, it's because they don't want to stand up for anything.  I've been standing up Eminem since the "Just Don't Give A Fuck/Brain Damage" single dropped Dec. 98. from the beggining, and I still am now, cause people still try to put him in the category of pop, and act like he's just a fad.  And I've always stood up for Dre, cause the Chronic was the album that got me into hip-hop.  And I think that artists like Eminem, Dre, 2pac, and Snoop are all in a league of their own.

i think that what other people listen to should not affect what you like, if you like Eminem listen to him don't boycott him cuz a lil girl from the burbs likes him too, i'm sure that lil girl likes pizza just as well as you, are you gonna boycott that too>?

jesus people. I think its ridiculous when you can't admit your favorite artists faults, like infinite, he is probably the biggest dickrider of eminem and Dre I have ever seen.  like i said earlier im all for when people get some success and exposure as long as they stay tight
