Rockets release Gerald Green

With surging rookie forward Carl Landy out for tonight’s game against the New Orleans Hornets, the Rockets moved quickly to shore up the thinning ranks of their frontcourt.

The Rockets signed former Rice forward and fan favorite Mike Harris, who impressed in training camp this season, to a 10-day contract, releasing guard Gerald Green to make room on the roster for Harris. Landry has developed swelling in his left knee and will be evaluated further. He bruised the knee against Indiana on Wednesday, but played the next night in Dallas with little difficulty.

“We’re making this move because of concern about tonight,” Rockets vice president of basketball operations Sam Hinkie said. “We’re making this move because Mike Harris is someone we’ve always liked. We need live bodies, and he’s more than just a live body.”

The Rockets also signed center Justin Williams to a 10-day contract on Friday. But without Landry – who has averaged 13.8 points on 68.4 percent shooting since Yao Ming went out for the season – the Rockets could be very short-handed in frontcourt scoring, with only Luis Scola considered a scoring option at the power forward or center positions.

“(Harris) is a guy we’ve liked for a long time,” Hinkie said. “We thought played very well for us. He brings a level of energy, toughness and athleticism and we like his rebounding. Our coaches always liked him and are very positive on him, as well as was the staff on basketball ops side. We targeted him, as someone that we if needed help, he’d be on the top of the list.”

I don't get it...What the hell is the problem? The dude seems very gifted, and I have yet to hear about him being a team cancer. Shit is just weird. I remember watching him closely with Boston last year, and he did a very good job, especially in one game I remember specifically where he was matched up head-to-head with Kobe. He had 20+ points, if I remember correctly, and did a good job defensively. I wouldn't mind it if the Lakers signed him as a back-up to Kobe...He can learn a lot that way and drastically elevate his game...PeACe

With Carl Landry out for the next two games the Rockets need some front court depth.  He's just a victim of the numbers game.

every team that had followed him (the celtics and the twolves) complained about his low basketball iq on the court. that was the only reason he rarely got playing time with minnesota.

^He's a young player, so that's expected. Basketball IQ is something that can be developed. Being gifted, on the other hand, is not something you can learn. I dunno how someone as talented as him can fall victim to a "numbers game".

When you become the GM for the Lakers you can sign as many guards as you want, other teams would prefer to have atleast two or more center or power forwards signed.

I hope he reaches his potential, becomes a perennial all-star, and makes you eat your words.

the knock on GReen is he has a bad basketball IQ, he should've went to college.

he was going to go to like oklahoma state i think but he decided to go to the draft

he was scoring 33 points a game in HS but he couldve used development time.  would've helped his confidence.
