Where do you See HIp Hop in 5 years?
« on: May 15, 2001, 04:21:09 PM »
sup Affiliatez.....
Now if u r checkin out this thread make sure u post something at least once!  this is a legit question........

I am just wonderin where you guys/gals think HIp hop will be in 5-10 years.....whether its east coast or west coast mid west...where ever....it dont matter.....

in my opinion, I see For one Dre no longer makin gangsta music.......i see him doing the motown way....gettin into rock, jazz, everything...builing up aftermath even more.

Honestly i dont know where Doggystyle/Dogghouse will be.  Snoop has alot of artist that are hungry to come out with there own CD.  And at the rate he is going, one or 2 cd's a year is not enough to keep all his artist happy.  He needs to release more stuff or i see them leavin.

West coast artist in General I think are going to move more towards the likes of RAss Kass.  He is one of the most underated lyricist out there, and i know there are lots of underground cats on the west coast that can match or outperform alot of the east coast cats lyrically.

there really isnt a lable besides Priority,Aftermath,Doggystyle, on a national level that can move or help the west coast.  I know there are a ton of independent labels like Black Market Records and others like them that are tight as fuck, but i still dont see them makin a mark in 5-10 years.

As far as the EAst coast, Def jam or should i say Universal is here to stay.  they have the industry on lock on the EAst coast.  they own def jam, and Def Jam just opened up offices in Germany and some other european places.  that alone will help them stay ahead.

I think P. Diddy will still be here, and I also think that Master P will be here.  You may not agree, but they are some smart business men. Not good rappers, but businessmen they are.  I dont see Suge Knight really into anything only cause his current actions seem to follow what he used to do in the past which landed him in jail.

In 5-10 years i think more and more artist are going to collaborate with Hip hop acts from overseas.  It will be funny to see how much of a Impact Digtial Music and digital distribution will play in the sale of music in 5 to 10 years.  People today upset at what eminem says, at what C-Bo says, what 2pac says, N.W.A, etc.....  What do u think they will talk about in 5-10 years?  I cant lie, I sure in hell its not about slangin dope, and other stuff.  I am tired of people of all races doing drugs.....(weed is ok though   8)  )  crack and all that other stuff has got to go...u think groupies will get there shit together...and there wont be any more bitches?  meanin no more DPG Pussy songs?   in 5-10 years, will there be Gangsta rap? or will it all move to songs like what Jurassic 5 does, or the early a Tribe Call quest?

Sorry this is so long..and if you took the time to actually read it..thank you....
I was just wondering what you guys thought HIp hop will be in 5 to 10 years.....all the artist we love now will be old...in there 40's and 50's.....will our kids be listenin to a Remake of the "thong song",  and "Stan"?

peace....hambone.......

although 5 years isn't a long time, i see hip hop only getting bigger...with a million new cats coming out each year, it's gonna be the next generations pop music. like krs one once said "eventually, we're going to have a president that was raised listening to hip hop." kinda funny when you think about it.

i think that there are gonna be a lot more white folks coming out in the industry, and they might even take over like they have with other types of music that black people have started....look at rock, blues, and jazz. maybe some day, hip hop with get the full credit it deserves as being an actual genre of music, and it will be possible for all people to enjoy....

those'll be the days.........

i hope race is thrown way out the window and we've got more multiracial collaberations like D12 and Dilated

i agree....race shouldnt matter.....as long as the person has skills......let him or her bring it....Dre proved it with Eminem...and you know...there are lots of white boyz out there..that have skillz...but they dong have chance to be put on......Eminem just laid the foundation for them LOL....5-10 years......the interviewers will ask, who did u look up to...they will say......eminem, slim shady!

another thing....

I want a big skills increase, i want less jiggy jiggy shit - take it back to 88->96 style. there were so many classics in that period.

problem is.. at the moment people want choppy beats (timbaland etc) but i want smooth funky shit (stuff like biggies - going back to cali) and hard shit like natural born killers and chin check.

yup - sampling is a staple of hiphop

the east coast cats like premier and teh underground beat diggers *always* sample (although they modify) their beats.

i think alot of us are gonna be looked at the same way we looked at our parents and olders wit their music like "oh your music sucks" or "your stuck in the 90s" but that happens to every generation.. we have to live with that... 5-10 years from now Snoop,Dre, Daz, Kurupt etc will either be retired or nearing the end of their careers, and it will be a sad days for Hip Hop no doubt... but some younger people will take their place, whether we pick them up and listen to them too is up to us... i probly will, no doubt.

hmm 5-10 years huh, let me look into my magic 8-ball

i think the west will be at an all time high, positive thinkin y'all!

id like to see an end to the 'rap label empire' idea, its always gon be problems, so i hope doggystyle for one just keeps it how they gettin now and dont get too big for their boots, unless snoop can really pull it off and please everyone.

id like to see more and more artists going independent, making more money and in turn puttin out more great records on time (eg daz)

I'd hope the OGs would still be around, im sure they will, but not rappin. i want the new blood to get a chance to shine.

the underground will become the overground, mark my words lol. the end of pop rap, please believe it, we gon take it all back

personally i would hope to be at a good level myself, producing for west coast acts and dropping heaters daily.

and of course Flawless Music Entertainment will be runnin shit (make it happen - www.flawlessmusic.com) ya know

as for the music? who knows, lets see where it takes us. its always gon be some fools changing the game, i love it.

I know y'all have alot of postitve thinngs to say about the future but I think we need a reality check.

Lets face it y'all, commercial hip-hop ain't goin no where. The sad truth is that  commercial rap will grow and become bigger than pop (its happening before our eyes).

Every year, millions of more people begin to listen to rap and take it seriously. Most of my friends used to be rock fans but now they are in to artists like Nelly, Mystikal, Juvenile and other COMMERCIAL artists.

In America, I believe commercial rap will take over. But in the U.K. I see underground rap growing and blowing up.

In 5-10 years there will be new stars in rap. Peope who are nobnodies today will become the superstars of tomorrow. I don't think in 5-10 years that there will be too many changes. In 10-20 years, however, rap will evolve into a completely different type of music. People will try new shit and make up a new style of rap. There could even possibly be more than one genre of rap music.

And thats my view.

In 5 years, we'll have new superstars, and many of the old superstars of today will be gone. Not everyone can last 5 or so years. There will people who will be gone. I see people like Mystical, Lil bow wow, lil romeo, trick daddy and more falling off. The people like puffy and master p will be here for a while.

I agree with what overseer said about the beats.

I think that we'll have people from japan, france, whatever rapping on american hip hop records. Hip hop will continue to grow bigger and bigger.

The underground will have a large enough fan base to where you can put out an album and sell gold without even releasing a single.  That will be great for hip-hop.  More artists like Talib Kweli, selling gold off their underground fan base.
