i dont think it would be appropriate for him to wear jerry rice's number even if jerry said its okay.

yeah he was a great WR for the seabags a few decades back

Rice is the best wide reciever ever but Bruce is a HOFer in his own right

There are only so many numbers for WRs, and it's not like Bruce will play well enough to retire his number as a 49er. If this was a young stud on the scale of Randy Moss entering his rookie season, then this would be an issue.
