When did Dre start working with the East Coast?
« on: April 13, 2001, 12:57:04 PM »
Was it back in '96 on Nas's "It Was Written" album?  I need to know when he first started to, and who else NON-WEST COAST he has worked with.  Thanks & peace.

Yes it was back in '96 when he produced "Nas Is Coming" from the "It Was Written" album. He also had KRS One on his "Aftermath Compilation". Of course everyone knows he worked with The Firm and he also did a song with LL Cool J. And he recently worked with Eve. I don't think he's worked with anymore East Coasters. Oh yeah, Jay-Z. And if you want to count Sam Sneed (remember him) because he's from Pittsburgh. And The Lady Of Rage is from Virginia which is out there.

Aight thanks E-Nasty, just wanted to make sure.  I wouldn't consider Rage, Sam Sneed or Kurupt as being East Coast rappers, they might of been born in the East, but their style is str8 West Coast.

Just because they were on a west coast label doesn't mean they have a west cost style. Jayo Felony and Warren G were on Def Jam (a strictly EC label) and their sound is definitely Cali Style. Young Gotti's style is made for Cali ears, but Rage and Sneed don't rap like us. Especially Rage. She just raps over west coast beats.

And yes Dre worked with D.O.C. and Face, but that's Texas. He said East Coast n*ggas.
