Throughout 2006 and 2007, it was rumored that legendary Yonkers, New York trio The L.O.X. was headed to Def Jam after Jay-Z's "I Declare War" concert. While Sheek admits that group-partner Jadakiss has helped usher the trio into the now Hova-less Def Jam, the whole ordeal made one-time Interscope Records reconsider the value of its early '00s stars.
Very recently, the artist who is signed to Koch Records as a solo outfit, dropping this coming week with Silverback Gorilla, spoke about to HipHopDX about his group's first album in eight years Live Suffer and Celebrate. "It’s going to be Interscope. But could you please quote, sorry for the delay and making everybody wait for all these years. We didn’t want to release the project when Ruff Ryders and Interscope wanted us to, it wasn’t feeling right with us."
In the discussion, which will run as an upcoming feature on DX, added that the sourness came from label-mate 50 Cent wielding powerful decisions at the California-based imprint. "Speaking of 50 Cent, when he was talking about pushing Styles’ album back. ‘Cause we were going to drop that after Styles’ album, but 50 was talking about, 'I push back Styles’ album, I make it this and that,' we was like 'Damn, if this dude can do that, what is he going to do to the L.O.X. album?'
Sheek says the group reacted accordingly. "We were thinking that’s not fair to us, or to the people who have been waiting all this time that really wanna hear the L.O.X. project, so we held off on that. And when Jay-Z, Jimmy Iovine was like, 'Nah, that’s not happening, this next L.O.X. project, I want that here.' And that’s where we at with it. But 'Kiss made his move, he was able to go and do him on Def Jam. Which is cool, ‘cause he’s getting in that building, opening up checks for everybody."
Sheek's new Red Spyda-produced single "Good Love" is in heavy rotation as we speak from his upcoming album. There is no word as to when the Interscope project is dropping.
