« on: May 04, 2001, 07:57:16 AM »
That actual question is pathetic man (sorry) and the posts inside are fuckin hilarious...
i mean..

Dre enhanced Pac's shit? FUCK NO, pac's best work was before 96.

Every post was about fuckin snoop, daz, dre whatever.. topic should say " Who got the Commercial Crown"

Dres production aint no better than Quik's. Fuck, no even a patch on Quik!!!!! Neway Quiks moved on,

YEA.. when your talkin about pioneers of West Coast Hip Hop Mixmaster Spade, , Eazy, Ice T, Baka Boyz, Nemises Calhoun, Uncle Jamms Army who started from spinning techno 12s back then. Run from dresta.com gon be making an Arabian Knight page up, player from NWA cds, he doing animation cartoons & shyt, but we gotta get cat back seen ya'l

DJ Quik?  Balance and Options was a brick in my opinion.

And 2pac's biggest hit was produced and featuring Dr. Dre.

And to call Dre Commercial?  Are you forgetting "Lyrical Gangbang", "The Day The Niggaz Took Over" "Rat-ta-tat-tat" "Nigga Wit A Gun" "Real Niggaz" "One Less Bitch."  etc. etc. etc.  It doesn't get more anti-commercial than that homie.

And everyone you named as pioneers are long gone.  Dre was there in the begining and is still on top today.  He's the pioneer and reigning champ of West Coast rap.  And rap music as a whole for that matter.

Thanks Nino, thats exactly some of the points i was trying to raise in my posts, at least someone feels me.

west coast rap wouldve evolved regardless of any one artist. sure Dre was undoubtedly one of the people that blew it up and brought it to a commercial audience, but it wouldve happened anyway, maybe it would of taken a different route, but it wouldve got there.

and comments like 'Dre IS the west coast period' (i know no-one said that but u get the idea) are just ridiculous and disrespectful to the west as a whole.

infinite you make a good point, but personally i think that those songs u named are so hardcore theyre commercial if u get what i mean. Dre realized people wanted to hear that type of shit and he cashed in.

commercial means popular, anything can be popular, not just shiny suits and gay white boybands

For fucks sake I'm tired of hearing people telling me how good these non commercial acts are.
All of these underground artists dream of becoming big and "commercial".
I ain't dissing these guys, I'm sure many of them are talented, but Dre catapulted West coast rap into people's hearts and minds through NWA and then changed the game again with the Chronic.
Just because you can name lesser known rappers/producers/DJs shows u have knowledge, but doesn't mean u are right because others say Dr Dre.
And Mr Loc trying to suggest that the tracks infinite listed were in some way commercial is a joke. Dre thought that Lyrical Gangbang would be a chart topper when he made it - yeah right.
U need to check urselves. People are always jealous of success and try to discredit people - it's a fact of life.
But this is plain ignorance.

naw dude you got what im sayin twosted as usual.
off the back of nwa what did the hip hop audiences want from Dre? HARDCORE gangsta rap. and he knew that so he catered for them. i didnt say lyrical gangbang was meant to be a chart topper, lol dont twist my words. dre knew all those mu-uffas wanted gangsta and he gave them it, thus releasing a POPULAR and COMMERCIAL album, you can be hardcore and commercial if hardcore is selling, feel me?
if u dont understand what im sayin dont twist my shit and call me ignorant.

and to think im hating on dre? HAHAHA you must be confused, i look up to Dre the most homie and i never hated on him, im just trying to open peoples eyes that there is more to the west coast hip hop scene than just dre and snoopy.

check YOUR self before dissin me and calling me ignorant

Guys, I Hate To Say It, But Some Of Yall Don't Kow What You're Talking About :)

I Live In Charlotte, NC , That's EASTCOAST. You Don't HEAR Westcoast Over Here!  Lemme Give You This To Think About, The ONLY (And I Mean ONLY, NO Exceptions) Songs You Hear On The Radio Are Dogg Pound, That's It.  Alkaholiks? Please, The ONly Xzibit Track EVER Played Over Here Was "X", And Then I Heard Them Play "Been A Long Time" 1 TIME.... If It Ain't Produced By Dre, It Don't Get Played, Unless It's A Snoop Song.

So How Can You Sit Here And Tell Me That Snoop And Dre Don't Have The Crown? Over Here, The Radio, And EVERYBODY In The City, Hasn't Even HEARD Of Anybody Else, It's Ridiculous.

You Say Quik? HA!  He's Great, And I Think He IS Near Dre's Level, But Nobody's Ever Heard Of Him On This Side, Yall.  And What About Over IN The UK? I Know Over There They Don't Play Nothin' But Dre And Snoop...

Yall Are In The Middle Of It Over There, But Frankly, Over Here, All I Hear Is Ja Rule, Jay Z, and Nelly.  EVERY Once In A While, They'll Play Snoop Or Dre, But That's It.... They NEVER Play Any Of The Old Stuff, So....

Trauma dog i never said dre and snoop didnt have the crown, of course they do, but like i said on the other post i dont think they are uniting the whole west like Pac did, cuz that was the original question, who's taken over from Pac.

okay can i officially lay this topic to rest now? otherwise its gon go on forever. i respect yalls opinions that the west aint nada without dre, dont agree with it but i respect it, seems SOME people respect mine, most dont. so rather than keep repeating myself that is IT
PERIOD  :)

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

I do think Pac had the West Coast Crown before he died.  I think it was Dre's, then Snoop during Doggystyle, then Pac's after All Eyes On Me, and then Dre and Snoop took it back in 1999.

And Mr. Loc, your trying to diss Dre's credibility. If it's a hardcore cut you call it commercial, and if it's a radio hit like 'Cali Love' you call it commercial.  There was hundreds of artists out west trying to do what Dre was doing back in 93, gangsta rap, and he did it far better than anyone else.  And because of that you try to diss him and call him commercial.  I can't feel anyone who tried to make a case for "Lyrical Gangbang" being commmercial.

dre developed the west coast sound straight up

if you look at every thing pre NWA it sounded pretty much just like what was going on on the east, ice t's cd's sound like they could've been from the east coast

straight outta compton was the begining of the evolution

deep cover was the next step

then the chronic

now 2001

every thing that came out on the west coast after one of these albums have been mimicing their styles

straight outta compton-numerous LA acts and  california acts were mimicing this sound

deep cover- the bar was raised again and tracks began to have that street sound like straight outta compton then with that harder cleaner sound like deep cover

the chronic- just about everyone for damn near 5 or 6 years from dj quik to madonna and mariah carey were jockin this style

2001-in the mist of the bouncy bling era this album popped up and now your starting to see alot more futurisitic funk that 2001 brought

people who don't wanna give dre credit or lunatics, even east coast heads who could care less about west coast give dre all the credit in the world , and is without a doubt the overall king of the west coast, like i said before pac was on top for 9 months before he got killed and didn't fully rep the west till he got on  deathrow , pac's first album was sounding straight East Coast, his second sounded eastern, his third wasn't really anykind of sound, and wasn't fully west coast sound til he was on the row and with dr. dre and his line of producers such as Daz and such....he repped oakland and the bay area since he hit the scene but not fully repped the west til 96....
