how long have you been listen to rap in ur life
« on: April 25, 2001, 04:37:20 PM »
I was curious how old you all were when you started listing to rap.  I really didn't become a big rap fan untill i saw NWA on farmclub.com.  I listened to rap a little bit because i was ashamed to be white an listen to rap.  The rap videos i remember seeing as a kid were Nutin but a "G' thang, gin & juice,  hip hop hooray, cali love, the crossroads, a Fabtatic voyage.  I would put the TV real low cuz i would get made fun of by my parents for liking rap,  it was nuthin traumatizing i just pissed me off.  Since seeing NWA on farmclub.com i have got pretty much all the classic westcoast albums except Makaveli 7 day theroy and tha doggfather because i havent been able to find themin stores.

For me, I never remembered the NWA days, it all came together in '92 for me when I saw "Dre Day".  Then when I heard "Nuthin But A G Thang", I went out and fuckin bought my first rap album ever.  Since then, I followed WC hip-hop up intil this day.

i think it was like '92 when i was 11. Just that Chronic album man, shit just hit me like frum nowhere cuz rap wasn't in the UK really at all then.
I remember hearing the chronic singles on the radio and i was just like whoa! although i didnt buy my first tape until doggystyle the next year.

Since then I could'nt get enough of hip hop, especially the best coast shiit, and for someone who lives in the UK i probably have one of the best West Coast hip hop collections. so thats like nearly 10 years now, damn how time flies lol

Beastie Boys... Fat Boys....

First Rap Song I Ever Heard Was "Brassss Monkey, That Funky Monkey!!!" Ya Know...

So I'm Pretty Old School Too.  I Wasn't Ever Exposed To The Real Underground Stuff, Though... Just Real Commercial Stuff.  Vanilla Ice, Snow, All That Crap.

First NWA Song I Ever Heard Was "She Swallowed It"  :o

See, in the 80's L.A. had the first ever hip hop only station KDAY, and I've listen since... OK we didn't get KDAY in the I.E., but we did get 99.1 in 1990. That's when I finally got to listen to rap on a regular basis. From South Central Cartel to N2Deep, that old school westcoast shit was bumping. Rodney O and Joe Cooley, So house shit by L.A. Stlye, "James Brown is  Dead" Cypress Hill up the ass, mostly underground. So in 1991, I really started getting into it. Before that I listen to some LL Cool J, Ice T and Eazy E, but in 1991, when we got our own station in the I.E., I really did. Shame now that 99.1 plays nothing but R&B now. Oh and my first rap tape was Eazy Does It in 1992. I was just 11.

Summer of 93, when I was 11,  I was at an MU Tigers basketball camp, we were all chillin in the lobby in between games, and "Wit a Dre Day" I heard Snoop utter the words "Bow Wow Wow Yippee Yo Yippee Yea" and I've been a hip-hop head ever since.
