Jay-Z was sayin' shit that he can go to any award show with all his jewelry on and not get jacked, and some said that was a shot at the West (I don't understand why really, somebody enlighten me), and also Jay in his raps was talking about gangs and what not, so Jayo felt that he needed to respond because Jay-Z was speakin' on all that shit, so Jayo made "Trued Up", "Catch 'Em In The Morning", and "Jigga's Ass Is Guilty", and then Jay responded later on with his verse on "Murda Marcyville"

some also say that Jayo was mad that Def Jam kept on shelving his project and pushing him back and they were catering more to Jay-Z
