-- MC Hammer won't be having a huge, elaborate party today (March 30) to celebrate birthday number 40. Instead, the hip-hop artist known for his elaborate stage show will have a nice private evening with his family, according to his spokesperson.
In December, Hammer's affection for his family was chronicled in the VH1 special Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story. In the television film, Hammer's wife, Stephanie Burrell, was portrayed as a loving, supportive, and strong woman who encouraged Hammer to pursue a career in entertainment, and also challenged him when she thought he was not spending enough time with family.
Hammer spoke to LAUNCH about his wife. "She's always been my pillar, my best friend," he said. "She knows that she'll never have to bite her tongue on her feelings or on her perspective. And I always took it in. Whether I liked it or not. So the things that she brought to my attention were very valid, and I had to digest it, and run it through my mind. And live with it and live it."
Hammer also added that he was pleased with Tangi Miller's portrayal of his wife. Hammer and Burrell celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on December 21.
