Are the Tampa Bay Rays for real ?
« on: May 17, 2008, 01:12:10 PM »
A lot of people before the season were saying they could see this team winning 80-82 games.  But they are playing great right now and are beating some decent teams.  Could they be the 08 D-Backs where you had a lot of good kids it was just a matter of when they matured ?

It's probably going to be tougher for them to come out on top due to their division, but they do have great players.  I'm glad Edwin Jackson and Dioner Navarro are doing well so far this season, they were treated unfairly here with the Dodgers.

i think they will give everyone a run for their money..but i dont think they will play like they are right now, for the ENTIRE season.

why do you say that they were treated unfairly?  navaro got hurt, russell martin came up and took his job and has since become one of the better catchers in the game..aint nothing 'unfair' about that.  as far as jackson goes, he was rushed, but he sucked when he was with us, so he got traded.

They got traded for shitty players.  It wouldn't have hurt at all to keep Edwin Jackson.  Very foolish trades.

if i were running things, i dont know if i would have traded him, i would probably have sent him down to work on his mechanics some more..but baez was decent for the short time he was with us.  beaz got us betimet from atlanta, and betimet got us proctor from the yanks.  and proctor helped solidify our pen..this year he has had two bad outings, but for the most part he has been lights out for us.

if we would have kept navaro, he wouldnt have benefited at all being a backup catcher for us..seeing the amount of time our backup catchers get with martin playing practically everyday, his development would have hit a road bump.  at least with tampa he gets a chance to go out and play on a regular basis.

Baez was average at best, and you don't trade young promising players for half a season of an average player.  Proctor has had more than 2 bad starts.  That's been the problem with Colletti.  He buys high and sells low.  Any GM that reacts like that is a straight up noob.

Dioner Navarro eventually would have been traded, I'm sure if he would have just finished the season in AAA his value would have gone up.

but look how long its taken them to develop into "something"...sure, in 10 years it COULD end up looking like a bad trade..but right now its too early to call it a 'horrible trade'.

they raped the Mets with that Scott Kazmir trade. If he can stay healthy the rest of the year the Rays have a good chance at being a sleeper in the East because other than Boston I don't think any team can compete with them including the Yankees who look horrible

They didn't rape the Mets... The Mets raped themselves.  The only good thing about black friday was it forced the organization to do overhaul and clean house.  As a Mets fan you experience a lot more bad moments then good ones.  I been through a lot of bad and remained a fan.  But the Kazmir trade was the closest I have ever come to moving on from the Mets and choosing a new team.  Hands down the worst trade in Mets history except for the Tom Seaver trade in 77 I believe.  But even worse then Nolan Ryan for Jim Fergosi.  Worse then Dykstra for Samual.  That trade still bothers me.

It's a horrible trade from the get go. Neither of those players actually have to be productive to prove that it was a bad trade.  It's the principle of it.  You don't trade away 6-12 years of service of prospects for mediocre players.

1. We know that they didn't suck.  2.  If they're blocked, a lot of teams will begin to ask about them, this is when you start searching around for offers not jump at the first thing you need in the off-season/midseason.  That's bad management skills.  Never sell low and buy high.
