NFL Question: the System or the QB itself?
« on: June 25, 2008, 08:01:25 PM »
NFL heads wasssuggs?

I remember bill walsh saying that he only needed a "decent" QB to make his system and that any QB with a decent arm could succeed in his system with the right pieces in place (good offensive line and WR's to run the rythim routes). Also that a great left tackle was just as important as a QB at times (lawrence tayler proved that)

In college football all you hear is if the QB is a "System" QB or not...like Tim Tebow :D

So comes down to the question....is the QB that makes the team great...or the System the QB runs?

A BETTER QB WOULD MAKE BETTER USE OF THE SYSTEM

The QB, but the QB being in a familiar system helps.

Eli deserves the most props out of all them. I never expected that team to make it.
Brady for his first super bowl win too.

yea...but...does the SYTEM MAKE the QB's that good? In dilfer's case...it was all defense hahaha. But you gotta remember Jonathon Ogden singly handly ran that offense from the Left Tackle position...he even said in an interview to just give him the ball and he'd play QB lol. Dude gave dilfer the MOSt time in the pocket and Dilfer STILL could'nt find targets at times.

NO CHANCE!! Look at the throws he makes, thats got nothing to do with the system, yeah Garrett is a great play caller and designs great stuff, but Romo still has to make the throws and he does a great job, he makes throws many qb's cant make..

^^The Cowboys' systems didn't really change that much, and they had most of the same personnel, but I wouldn't say he is a system QB at all, just look how others struggled at the position, and the plays he makes, with his arm and feet, and you realize he is a very good young QB. Personally, I think Warner was just a system QB, Trent Green would have been good if not for his injury, Marc Bulger had success, and Kitna put up numbers in Detroit with Martz. In the NFL, most QB's that have long success are just good, the system can help them get on track and get comfortable, but you don't become an elite QB for a 5 year period or longer based on a system, because the defenses will adjust and figure out how to stop you.

The college game sees a lot more products of the system through the variations in offense (Texas Tech, Hawaii, Utah, Oregon).
I got a bird's eye view
