ok lets look at things in a smart way, not as an overemotional "fanboy"

top 10 seasons in OPS+   (OPS adjusted to the rest of the league, the higher the # the better)

Mays:    184,175,175,174,174,172,165,165,159,159
Mantle:  223,210,206,196,195,188,180,178,170,164

Mantle has 3  MVP's, to May's 2, and also Mantle won 7 rings Mays only won 1!!!!

PLAYOFF STATS

WMays: .247 batting average, .323 on-base %, .337 slugging average, 89 at-bats; 12 runs 22 hits 1 HR 10 RBI 10 BB in 25 games
Mantle: .257 batting average,  .374 on-base %,  .575 slugging avergage,  230 at-bats:  42 runs, 59 hits, 18 HR 40 RBI 43 BB in 65 games

advantage Mantle in a big way

i'll take the Mick, you prick.  8)

^^Nice little fluff there you posted moron but everyone knows Mays is the better player,  only Yankee fans will say otherwise, to the rest of the country that are fans of baseball this isn't even a debate.  The only player that you can put above Willie is The Babe and that can be debated,  LOL at Mantle.  Also Hank I dont get it,  you are a Yankee fan and NY Giant fan but then in NBA you root for the Celtics LMAO!  Can your bandwagon tenancies be any more obvious,  you decided that in the NBA the Knicks sucked so you would just pick the best franchise ever in the NBA to root for LOL you are a joke CRACK

Nah he had more Homers when he hit in the enormous Polo Grounds and missed 2 years fighting in the war,  way better on the bases and defensively, thats why I along w/ every other Non-Yankee fan says Mays>>>Mantle,  nice try CRACK

ok well i'm sure Mickey Mantle will take his 7 rings and 3 MVP's over 2 MVP's and 1 ring

Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Honus WAgner, Josh Gibson, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Tris Speaker > Willie Mays

oh and Rogers Hornsby too.  hell, Hank Aaron was a better offensive player than Mays  (but defense probably equals Mays up to it)

spice...why is Tris Speaker not as good a player as Willie Mays?  can you actually DEBATE instead of look like a brainwashed-by-ESPN fool?

Speaker joined baseball around the same time as Cobb, and became a regular by 1909.  with his AMAZING centerfield defense (statistically unrivaled by anyone) and supurb hitting the Sawx won two world series with him.

After the Red Sox 1915 World Series victory, Speaker got a horrible contract proposal (a 40% paycut) from Red Sox president Joe Lannin. Speaker told the Sawx to go shove it so Lannin traded Speaker to the Cleveland Indians for Sam Jones, Fred Thomas and $50,000.

In his Cleveland career Speaker had a .354 batting average and holds the Indianss team record for most Times on Base.  He also has recorded the 5 highest On-Base Percentages in Cleveland history.

At the time this trade was considered the worst in Red Sox history, even after Babe Ruth went to the Yankees and rearranged every record in the books. It's still EASILY one of the most one-sided deals in baseball history....

"Despite spending most of his career in Ty Cobb's considerable shadow, Tris Speaker's .345 lifetime batting average and revolutionary defensive play made him one of Cobb's few rivals as the greatest player of the 1910s." - National Baseball Hall of Fame

you just don't like him because

a-he's not a Giant
b-you can't make a compelling arguement against him over Mays

not putting down Willie Mays at all,  he was a GREAT, AMAZING player.  I'm just saying he's not a "clearcut" #1, or even a top 5 all time player.  top 10 sure.  but you got 150 years before him and I can find 9 better players...
