You cant really say that cause when they were selected the world was not aware of their human rights violations

Hitler was selected in 1933, the world didnt know he was liquidating Jews and so forth until 1945
Stalin was selected in 1943, the world didnt know he was purging the Soviet Union until 1953 after he died

So you cant say Time is all on us, at the time they seemed viable figures
Hitler recreated a glorious Germany
Stalin took over from Lenin and upgraded the Soviet Union to levels never seen before

Kinda like Frank Roosevelt here
He took America through the Depression and
Led us into war even at the expense of his own health

It always seemed to me it was the most influential person of the year in a historical context, not a popularity contest. The chooses are often pretty stupid. Bin Laden should've been the choice in 2001, as he was the most influential person that year in the context of world history. It's a very American based magazine though. Not really very objective.

When he was helping by doing his part
In whipping the Soviets asses in Afghanistan
