Josh Childress weighing Greek offer

The Sporting Blog: Childress latest to turn Euro

Free agent forward Josh Childress is weighing a three-year, $20 million offer from Olympiakos, a Greek basketball team, according to an online report.

Jim Tanner, Childress' agent, told SN's Sean Deveney, "He is definitely considering it. We're here now."

Yahoo is reporting Childress flew to Greece late on Sunday to visit with Olympiakos officials because he is "so flustered with the Hawks' refusal to make a sign-and-trade deal."

"Unless he just gets there and doesn't like it at all, I think he's going to go," a league source told Yahoo. A source also told the site that there's a "better than 50-50 chance" he'll sign with the Greek team and spurn the NBA.

Only the Grizzlies have more than a mid-level exception available and their lack of activity on the free-agent market makes it clear they will not be spending on Childress or any other significant remaining free agents.

As part of a dynamic, young core for the Hawks, Childress averaged 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds during the 2007-08 season.

Reports in Greece say he already accepted. Damn...crazy shit.

Good shit.. Euro leagues don't get proper recognition... niggas rather get a bum ass deal for some bum ass NBA team over trice the money for a league-leading euro team
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

I never really expected a guy who is an important part of an NBA team to go to Europe, this would be real interesting. If he does, do you think anybody will follow suit? The story I saw said that he could return to the NBA either of the next 2 summers if he signs, so maybe his value can increase or he will just have the freedom of being an unrestricted free agent.
I got a bird's eye view

I guess they don't want to. I mean, I don't blame them...That's almost 7 mill per year. Childress is an MLE guy, at best.

This is the latest trade...Brandon Jennings is skipping college to play overseas. He woulda' been a lottery pick coming straight out of high school.

there's nothing wrong with earning a college education

theoretically Stern should've made it 2 years (a la getting a 2 year degree to fall back on)

but we all know the flaw with the system:  the kids just take easy-ass classes and teachers let them pass for nothing....

that's a society problem though.
