Margarito Defeats Cotto!!
« on: July 26, 2008, 10:46:06 PM »
Margarito made the mighty Cotto voluntarily fall to his knees twice in the 11th and his corner throws in the towel!

All night Cotto had been on the run and while he landed some good defensive shots, the pressure was on him the whole time and it proved to be too much to handle.

Its really hard to fight someone constantly putting pressure on you like that.  Cotto was doing good for awhile but his punches had very little effect,  Margarito has one helluva chin

Word.  Totally unexpected turn of events.  I knew Margarito had an amazing chin, but god damn not that good ya know!  Now it's a bigger shame tham Mayweather retired, he would be a perfect match up for both Cotto and Maragarito.

I had a feeling Margarito would be too much for Cotto to handle. There is a reason so many fighters have ducked him for so long. It is now in limbo though as to what fight is next out there for anyone in this division. Margarito vs Oscar?, Hatton?, Mosley?, where do ya go from here?

The rumor is that Oscar doesnt want to fight a Mexican because he wants to retire in good terms with the hardcore Mexican boxer lovers lol

Translation: He don't want to lose.  ;D That would not be a easy fight for him regardless.

I think many people had this situation set up

Cotto wins
Cotto faces De La Hoya and beats him
Cotto forces Mayweather to come out of retirement for a HUUUUUGE fight

Yeah that is how I thought it would go too. Mayweather did not even want to fight Margarito when he was the mandatory challenger for his belt but I think he would have made a exception to come out of retirement if Cotto won. But now Margarito has a bit of a bargaining piece in a title. It will be interesting to see now who steps up to challenge him.

Yeah the welterwieght division is one of the best right now. So many intriguing matchups that could take place. Hatton vs Margarito would be a instant classic, Mosley vs Magarito would be good. But I really want to see Floyd fight Antonio.

Mayweather is at a point in his career where he's gonna take the big money fights. A lot of fighters have not wanted to fight Margarito for one major reason. He is a very difficult fighter to look good against (even in victory), and he's never drawn the big money.
