Exclusive Interview With Craig G & Marley Marl - July 29, 2008 By : Rud

Dubcnn recently hooked up with legendary producer Marley Marl and the equally legendary Craig G. Despite some technical difficulties with the conference call Craig G told us about how their new project "Operation: Take Back Hip Hop" was a very natural process for them.

Find out why Craig G feels the term ‘Old School’ should be a term that we no longer use in hip hop. Craig also tells us what he learned from working on the movies for 8 Mile and Get Rich or Die Trying. Ensure you pick up "Operation: Take Back Hip Hop" which is in stores now.

Dubcnn: Because you don’t have to do all of the promotion and all of those other things. You can do stuff behind the scenes. Now I know that you guys have a busy day planned so when I say the word Classic, and I’m not going to use that word ‘old school’ anymore like you said…what’s the first thing that comes to mind when the word classic is said to you?

Craig G: To me, something that stands the test of time. No matter how many times you hear it or see it or involve yourself in it, it still seems fresh. That’s absolutely what it is to me.

Nice read - I liked the Operation album, but it got bogged down with Craig G spitting about how hip-hop isn't real anymore. That's OK, and a lot of people will agree, but I would have liked to hear him make some more tracks that proved what real hip-hop is, if you know what I mean, rather than just explaining how wack today's music is. In the opening track he makes a point of saying he's not just an old bitter emcee, but the problem is that's exactly how he comes off for most of the album.

I'd recommend the album to fans of 'golden age' hip-hop though.

^Word on that about him bogging the album down with negativity on music rather than just making good new music! He definitely comes off as slightly bitter!

Still gutted Marley got cut off this interview call!
