Dabo after the Joey Barton assault

BAD boy Joey Barton is again in hot water after being hit by a fresh FA charge.
The Newcastle midfielder, who was released from prison this week after serving 74 days of a six-month sentence for beating up a teenager in Liverpool, has now been charged with violent conduct after his assault on Ousmane Dabo.

Barton, 25, was handed a four-month suspended sentence earlier this month for attacking his former Manchester City team-mate in May 2007.

The player had admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the training ground incident.

The new charge from the FA comes as a result of his hearing at Manchester Crown Court after football’s governing body received all the relevant documentation from the case.

There is no maximum sentence which could be issued to Barton by the FA but the star could face a lengthy ban and big fine.

The FA are likely to strongly contest any claim by Barton that further punishment for the offence would be a case of ’double jeopardy’, given that an employee in any industry would expect to suffer professionally for a criminal offence committed at work.

Newcastle responded by questioning why they should be penalised for an incident which took place so long ago and while the player was at a different club.

The club statement read: “Newcastle United can confirm that it has received documentation from the Football Association stating that it is charging Joey Barton with misconduct in relation to the incident that occurred with Ousmane Dabo in May 2007, at a time when he was a registered player of Manchester City.

“The club has sought clarification from the Football Association as to why this decision has been reached now, given the incident occurred nearly 15 months ago.

“Joey will be requesting a personal hearing in relation to the charge and the club will be making no further comment on the matter at this time.”

Barton has until August 13 to respond to the charge.

JOEY BARTON has never apologised to Ousmane Dabo for the cowardly attack on his former Manchester City team-mate.
Now Barton faces a battering from the FA over his rampage, which almost cost the Frenchman an eye.

Dabo, 31, who left Eastlands for Lazio in the wake of the brutal incident, spoke to SunSport yesterday after the FA announced they were charging Barton with violent conduct over the assault in May 2007.

He said: “I just want to get on with my life and move on from this.

“He has never apologised to me personally for what happened. He may have apologised in court but I have heard nothing. For me the matter is now closed.”

Asked if he would return to London to give evidence at any future hearing, Dabo declared: “If the FA call me then I will let you know.

“I am at another club now, I am enjoying my career at Lazio and I want to do my best for them.”

Following the attack at City’s training ground, Dabo said: “I almost lost an eye. It was a terrible day. Barton admits he attacked me, struck me from behind and beat me when I was unconscious.

“He admits he behaved in a cowardly way and he is a coward.”

Barton pleaded guilty to the assault in June. He had lost his temper after a practice match and landed a blow on Dabo’s temple, causing him to fall.

Barton then hit him a further four or five times.

Team-mates said blood poured from Dabo’s head, ear and nose.

Dabo added: “English clubs teach you lots of lessons. But in this case they truly lack ethics and morals. Newcastle have invested a lot in this guy and do not want to lose a lot of money. The club do not care a damn about the law. It shocks me.”

Furious Newcastle fans last night pleaded with boss Kevin Keegan to sack Barton, 25, in the wake of his latest charge shame.

Members of the Toon Army view the prospect of a 15-match ban as the final straw.

Life-long fan Bern Douglas, 58, said: “Barton is a disgrace and I cannot stand what his name and reputation is doing for our club. What is the point of keeping someone like that?”

Frank Gilmore of the Newcastle United Independent Supporters’ Association rapped: “Keeping Barton is just wrong. Keegan should have washed his hands of him.”

Yeah that video is outside McDonalds in liverpool town. A place I often go to. He's a weird lad though, his whole family is pretty much horrible so I kinda feel bad for him, the apple doesnt fall far from the tree and all that. but then again, he's his own person and should be able to make his own decisions. On the pitch he's done some horrible challenges and silly things, off the pitch is just as bad. Needs alot of help if he is going to re-launch his career.
