question about dr. dre's perfectionism
« on: August 13, 2008, 07:15:08 PM »
was Dre always a perfectionist?
im just saying. i never heard shit from Dre saying he was a perfectionist until after "2001" cause im gettin a little suspicious that this "perfectionism" he says is just a cover up when he takes a long ass time on an album

I think he was but I'm not sure. I remember when Snoop Dogg was talking about recording The Chronic he was saying that Dre was very precise about everything.

LmAo^^ ;D ;D ;D

My understanding is that Dre just wants the track to be very good, so he might want to go over something quite a few times to ensure it's right to him.
to Others that may be interpreted as somewhat "perfectionism"; to Dre it may be, just "doing it Right,no matter how long it takes"..You Know..

I think lately its been an excuse in some ways but no doubt Dre wants Detox to be his best shit. Even in the old days Dres production sounded a lot fresher than must other hip hop producers but i think recently with his aim towards movie scores hes been perfecting it even more.

but if it takes 9-10 years to "do it right", even with ghostwriters and 4-5 producers doin most of the work then you know u not a good producer and you know you'll never gonna get it right.

I don't really think it's like..
I'm sure Dre as countless beats that he has produced over the years..
Working with various musicians at some point can be tedious if they are using the same formula over adn over again.
All producers get into that situation..
So i think With Dre going over the track again and again is to see if they can approach the beat in a different way.

I find it's wrong to say that it takes Dre 9 to 10 years to make a record as if he's lost his style.  Anything that's released from the Aftermath house is an influence of Dre.  Any beat produced by Dre could have easily been added to a CD to be done by Dre.  It's clear to me that Dre's a more complicated individual, he's less about I and more about We.  Take the Documentary.  Dre could have spit some shit over those beats but he didn't want to.  I don't know why but he chopped them off to Game.  Dre sounds better over Where I'm from then Game does and he'd probably sound better over How We Do, West Side Story, and Higher.  The dude is pushing himself.  He ain't lose nothing, he's just trying to create something new.  With these new beats they've got a certain class to them.  He hasn't perfected that class but, if he does, I'm sure it'll blow our ears to the gutter.

He is a perfectionist. So much that he's decided to not put out shit just so he doesn't have to worry about releasing anything average  ;D
