The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent Josh Powell, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Powell, a three-year NBA veteran, spent last season with the Los Angeles Clippers where he averaged 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 64 games. After going undrafted in 2003, the 6-9 forward spent two seasons overseas where he played in both the Italian and Russian basketball leagues. Prior to the 2005-06 season, Powell was signed as a free agent by the Dallas Mavericks where he averaged 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 37 games. The North Carolina State alum was traded to the Indiana Pacers in July of 2006 and played in seven games before being acquired by the Golden State Warriors in a midseason trade. Powell finished the 2006-07 season with averages of 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 37 games.

Powell has career averages of 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 138 games with Dallas, Indiana, Golden State and the Clippers.

Great pickup.

Nice...he's a great replacement for Turiaf. I was surprised when Clippers waived him in favor of Skinner. Now I'm happy they did... 8)

Powell is horrid,  as a Pacer fan I know,  he was the last guy on our bench and not good enough to even play 5 minutes a game he is horrible,  LMAO at him replacing Turiaf

Him and Turiaf are the same age, same height, and put up nearly identicle numbers last year (Turiaf: 6/3, Powell: 5/5). Did your role on this forum change to being another bash-the-Lakers-in-every-thread poster?

^LOL, seriously...Spice has become a mockery of himself. A shell of the former poster he used to be.

Honestly, I watched Powell with the Clippers last year, and he held his own as a starter in the last couple months...look at his numbers when he gets minutes:

i think it's a nice pick up....i don't think he's going to be as valuable as turiaf because of the energy and shot blocking he brought, but he's a good pick up.

It was a nice pickup for the Lakers.  He may not be an energetic cheerleader player like Turiaf is on the bench but he's a hardworker and will bring some hustle play off the bench. He won't bring too many blocks but he does have a 10 foot jumper and rebounds pretty well.  Lakers get a Turiaf-like player for a fifth of the price.

^ yeah he's a great young talent when you consider his role on this team. If things go as I would assume, our roster for next year would look somethin like...

Andrew Bynum / Chris Mihm
Pau Gasol / Vladimir Radmanovic / Josh Powell
Lamar Odom / Trevor Ariza / Luke Walton
Kobe Bryant / Sasha Vujacic / Dwayne Mitchell
Derek Fisher / Jordan Farmar / Sun Yue

Lol @ niggas hatin on our 3rd stringers. Hi haters :P

LOL...Dwayne Mitchell wont make the team over Joe Crawford/Coby Karl...I'm also pretty sure Mbenga will be our 3rd center.
