Ranking Song By Song On "The Documentary"
« on: August 14, 2008, 10:02:38 PM »
Thought it'd be a good idea with all the game talk.

Intro - N/A
Westside Story - 5/5 - perfect way to start off the album; bangin west coast beat and 50 did his thang on the hook.
Dreams - 5/5 - CLASSIC hiphop track, period. In 10 years, I think THIS is the Game track will look back on as his best.
Hate It Or Love It - 5/5 - CLASSIC. Don't think a hiphop album has ever started off this good 3 tracks deep.
Higher - 4.5/5 - IMO the best "hardcore mainstreaming" sounding track on the album - would have been 1st single if I chose that lol
How We Do - 4/5 - Not bad for a mainstream first single at all, hot beat fa sho and the hook is good.
Don't Need Your Love - 5/5 - Classic. Love the beat. Game raps his ass off on this. Evans did her thang as well.
Church For Thugs - 4/5 Bangin just Blaze Beat.
Put You On The Game - 4.5/5 - 'Bout on par with Higher
Start From Scratch - 5/5 - CLASSIC. Marsha does her thang and I love this beat. Another standout track easily.
The Documentary - 3.75/5 - Far from the best on the album, love the creative hook and concept though. Something lacked (still good).
Runnin' 3.5/5 - Like the beat and Game rappin but wow at how horrible Yayo came on this
No More Fun & Games - 4/5 - Game raps his ass off on this one
We Ain't - 3.75/5 - Avg Em beat and Em disappointed me with his verse. Game jacks the Em flow but uses it well.
Where I'm From - 4.5/5 - classic west coast summer time track.
Special - 3.25/5 - not really my style
Don't Worry - 3.5/5 - see special lol
Like Father, Like Son - 5/5 - classic and nice way to close out the album.

Dreams - 5/5, same with you
Hate It Or Love It - 5/5, one of best Game's songs ever

Don't Need Your Love - 4/5
Put You On The Game - 5/5
Start From Scratch - 5/5
The Documentary - 4/5
Runnin' - 4/5, Yayo fucked up this song totally, why he didnt put Banks on it?
No More Fun And Games - 4/5

Where I'm From - 3/5, not feeling this song, but that WNBA line is dope

I'll make mine out of 10.. with 10 being a track on the level of "Nuttin But A G Thang" from the Chronic and 1 being any song by Soulja Boy....

Westside Story- 6.5-  Dope track

Dreams-  8-  Maybe Game's best and most memorable joint like the opening post said

Hate It Or Love It-  7-  Nice concept track

Higher-  3-  Sometimes less is more, this track was a little too much for me

How We Do-  6-  Okay for a single, way too predictable

Don't Need Your Love-  8-  Game goes deep with this one, hook is infectious

Church For Thugs-  3-  skipped over this track

Put You On Game- 8-  Timbo really hooked Game up with a Monster track

Start From Scratch- 7.5-  Great concept track, Dre produced

Tha Documentary- 3- skipped over this joint too

Runnin- 8.5-  I personally LOVED this song, Hi Tek did his thing, loved the little tapping in the background

No More Fun And Games- 3- Another one I skip over

We Ain't-  7-  This was recorded after 8 Mile, which means we are not hearing Eminem at his best or in his prime, so it's not on the level of a "Say My Name" like Eminem hooked Xzibit up with, but considering this track was done after Eminem had already fallen off it's a great joint

Where I'm From- 7-  Bangin.. dope ass West Coast joint

Special - 3.5-  Another track to skip over

Don't Worry- 4- Alright I guess

Like Father Like Son-  6.5  Another dope concept track

Overall-   8-10

Not as great as the West Coast golden age era albums like Doggystyle, Dogg Food, Chronic, Niggaz4Life, Me Against The World, All Eyez On Me, Makevelli 7 Day Theory.... and so on....

But compared to the post 2,000 era, it's not on the level of 50 Cent's Get Rich Or Die Trying... but it's close.

Take off We Aint and Dont Worry..lyrically, No Fun and Games is tight but the whole sound sounds off from the rest of the album.

Keep the rest of the tracks!

I'm surprised so many cats feel Start From Scratch, I always thought the drums on that were mad weak, and the cheesy R&B hook didn't help it - filler track to me

Dreams, Westside Story, How We Do, Hate It Or Love It, Put You On The Game are all dope though, and a couple of others

Co-sign, though I think Documentary and Get Rich... are about on the same level

^thats what i woulda ranked each song. and word, slightly better than DA...i do think LAX>DOC>DA. but i have not even heard the clean version yet. I heard "Pain", "Dope Boyz" & "My Life". all 4-5/5 tracks to me. this album is headed in the right direction.

nah to me, the only thing that could have been improved a little was the bassline

Why do sappy, simple minded fans think Dreams and Start from Scratch are so deep. Their simple songs, with a stupid message, full of name dropping and bad lyrics, made from a moronic, mediocre rapper.
