that always happens with wrong expectations. same with the "in the mid nite hour" album by Warren G ... it didn't sound g-funky like his previous albums, so people hated it. the album is pretty awesome though. unlike his latest "the g-files" release which followed the same "not like the others" direction but it simply was not up to par.
