No mainstream market for westcoast music?
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:59:37 AM »
It seems like these record labels think the music coming from the west coast doesnt appeal to the masses. I am sure they have polls and marketing statistics showing the same... I mean how many new artists from the westcoast went plat or even gold in the last 5 years?

Worldwide sells that's how and the numbers are low. Platinium means nothing nowadays since they lowered the number to reach to pretend being certified platimium.

Westcoast music that's gangsta music at 90%, i don't see how it could be appealing. The gangsta attitude was trendy back then but the real problems remains, don't they?

Hence, we now see the resurgence of electronic music as a matter of fact mtv (over here) don't play rap anymore.

By the way, rap nowadays is total crap no worldplay , no artform whatsoever.

They probably see L.A. radio not supporting it's own...that leaves an impression...cuz if someone is about to invest money they would want to see more of a local base to launch a campaign from...

I don't even want to talk about radio....KDay went from playing a mix of new West artists, old west, a small amount of what's current and "hot", and everything inbetween.....to playing THREE nationally syndicated shows EVERY DAY of the week, meaning NO local DJs or personalities, and absolutely NOTHING but Top 40 music...and after those go off, Theo does the R&B and commercial songs. If somebody told me that 93.5 was a Chicago, Atlanta, or Texas station...I wouldn't even guess twice. The ONLY time you hear anything West period is at night on Fridays and some weekends...and you rarely hear new artists now.

And on this topic itself, I could go all day....but I'll just summarize it.....

No, there is no market right now. Hyphy had a slight chance, but even that was just club music...it didn't make anybody buy albums. There is really no mainstream market for GOOD music nowadays, whether West East or South (Little Brother, etc.) but even if we had stronger artists and albums coming out, it wouldn't necessarily mean it would get promoted right.

The problem here is we like whatever the radio feeds us :(

The West or Good artists in general simply needs better promoters and executives, cuz as far as rap is concern, Jay Z, Jimmy Iovine are the main reason why music sucks these days and the good artists are ignored

seems like more and more rappers are going independent. that means lack of promotion but you make more money per album, thats y u dont hear um on the radio tho... remember the last time they played a daz song... only when so so def was backin him.
