If You Wanna Fix Westcoast Music
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:03:56 PM »
I dont think raps matter lyrics dont matter i think what we have to fix or what people need to fix is production beats that what needs to be done because since 2002 and on production has been very iffy on the westcoast i mean there is promising talent out there fredwreck damizza rome fingazz gittum meech wells terrace martin. But the established producers like dj quik dr dre battlecat etc they really havent made anything good signiture westcoast sound in a while and i think that is where we need to start because good rappers have gone bad or just havent done anything waiting for good beats. Then we need to worry about hooks nate is sick man he cant do it butch cassidy knocturnal kokane suga free somebody with that potential needs to step up to make us sound good because right now music is not where it needs to be its fucked up from everywhere the westcoast needs to swoop up like a eagle or hawk and take that shit its time to be dominainte again.

REAL WESTCOAST G

I REP THAT WEST

i think the only way to fix the west coast is for more artist who are major to trinkle down and collab with other artist who arent as big as they are..create a strong region...most artist dont have any weight when it come time for a sit down....no lable wants to sign west coast rappers because we arent solid

I agree.  These producers like Battlecat & Fred Wreck are weak when it comes to putting their faces out there and getting their names out there.  That's why artists like The Game have to go get other producers like Cool & Dre and Scott Storch.

If you look at the 90's, our production was considered top notch -- we had QD III, Johnny J, DJ Pooh, Warren G, Blaqtobin, Daz Dillinger, Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, and many more dropping heaven all over classics like 'All Eyez On Me,' 'Doggystyle,' 'Cocktales,' 'Operation Stackola', 'Dogg Food,' etc.

These guys on the West now don't do anything to put their faces out there.  DJ Quik and Daz are still very talented.  But except for a few tracks for T.I., Daz doesn't put his face out there enough anymore.  DJ Quik did a track for Jay-Z and other than that he doesn't branch out either.

Our newer producers are the same way -- they don't market themselves or put their faces out there.

You look at the top producers in the game -- Mannie Fresh, Akon, Cool & Dre, Pharrell, Timbaland, etc. -- they are always branching out and producing for other music genres and doing interviews, pushing their image, making appearances.  Our cats don't do that no more.

The West has become lazy in terms of production and that's why our best rapper, The Game, has to go outside the West to find the right producers.  When our #1 rapper has to go outside of the coast for the majority of production, yeah he wants to branch out, but it speaks volumes about the situation with west coast producers being lazy and underachieving.

The thing is, I seriously think if a great new westcoast producer comes out, I think Game would jump on him quick.

On top of all of that, the west needs to become fun again. Westcoast music ain't fun. Ain't Nothin' But A G Thang was fun, California Love was fun, half of NWA's Elif4zaggin was at least so vulger it was fun, I Get Around, Digital Underground was fun, Doggystyle was fun, Ain't No Fun, all of that, DJ Quik had some hits that were just fun, Tonite, Lighter Shade of Brown was fun, Cypress Hill was stoner fun, Coolio was always fun. Bottomline, the west was fun. No one's having fun anymore. People are trying to be hard, people are trying to be gangstas. It's cool, it's west, but it's not all the west is about. I've been to parties out in Ingelwood and it's all weed, liquor and women, I've been in parties out in Carson, it's all fun. Yeah there's some gangsta ass muthaphukkaz looking to start some shit, but at the end of the day rappers need to bring fun back to the west.

I think that fixing the beats is a cool idea. I dont remember n album Ive bought in the last few years that didnt have a few 'meh' songs on it!!!  Also i think it would be good if labels got artists to put out more albums instead of mixtapes all the time... The more (quality) albums to hit the stores = the more money the label makes....

I could be wrong but thats my thoughts... PEACE 8)

I agree 100! Couldn't have said it better.  All the houseparty classics and g-funk vibes that put the West on top were fun.  Everyone was young, wildin, and havin fun.  Remember when "Doggy Dogg World" used to come on? Anywhere you were at, that was a fun feel-free track! 'Doggstyle' was fun.  "Nuthin But A G' Thang" was fun.  Everyone was sayin "Beeeyatch" like Too Short cause it was fun.  Everyone was sayin the 'izz' words like Tha Dogg Pound on "Big Pimpin."  People were lovin life and havin fun.

Now the West has no major producers that branch out, no fun concepts, and it's all just a bunch of no-names beefing with each other or trying to get at the few cats that are bringing in the cake.
