is bishop gonna get a raw deal or will it come good?
« on: October 23, 2008, 05:22:02 PM »
i thought it would be good for some more speculation on the future of bishop lamont. bishop always shows love for all the internet heads talking shit about him

with all the hype around a new 50 and em lps and presumably the almighty detox, will bishop get a piece of the pie afterward? do you think he's been guaranteed his release when its all done and dusted due to his closeness with dre or could it still turn sour like it has for so many aftermath signees before him?

i'd like to paint an optimistic picture, even though there are so many signs that his album could end up on the cutting room floor. now we know he is gonna have numerous pieces of publishing on detox and i think that its genuinely coming this time. even with his sons death dre is gonna show people that he aint all old and dried up and there is still a fresh direction he can take the game. we know its gonna be on a different kind of vibe probably much more chilled out using live drum sounds and have a lot of classical influences. i think the main musical influence for detox is still yet to be heard. when you hear quik speaking on it saying its musically insane and we know quik know his music, then you shouldn't really doubt it imo.

so with detox released i think there is too much support for bishop for dre to allow him to be dropped. he's had a buzz around him for a while and while it won't last forever (he should keep putting out music in the meantime) i reckon he'll still be good for a release. he's a likable dude and while there are some contradictions in his music he is way more positive than a lot of dudes who came before him. has skills on the mic, a better and more relevant view of society for us than your average rapper and even made his muscles bigger just for the bitches like jimmy iovine. the problem all comes from interscopes marketing. if it's only gonna allow straight pop music to be put out then it could be wraps. but with detox thats gonna be redefining a few things hopefully...

im blazed out so excuse the rambling, but whats peeps think?

I hope he can drop a release.  I think it would be a classic since his mixtape material is good.  Some artists you have to take time with the public to accept.  A very relevant example is M.I.A.  After Pineapple Express featured Paper Planes on the trailer she got attention.  Then Kanye made Swagga Like Us and she's the new hot shit.   There is a way to market a bishop song but it needs a banger beat.  Bishop can still spit lyrics that are positive.  Grow Up was a good song but it wasn't a banger.  If they adjusted the beat it could have been better but even then it's not really a single.  A good album track, not a single.

I'd say it looks pretty good for Bishop. Smart money says Interscope is gonna drop the guaranteed established projects like Detox, Em's project, and 50 first. Depending on how Detox is received, which I expect to be rocky at first, we may get Bishop not too far after that. 50 is done with Interscope after Before I Self Destruct and Dre and Em probably won't be doing follow-ups too quickly after that given how long a hiatus they took between the last ones. There will need to be a new act to come through after that but again, nothing is guaranteed. The music industry is in piss poor condition and a lot rides on the "Three-Headed Dragon". If Detox does as well as "2001", people are gonna want more Dre so Bishop would be the most likely candiate to come out off that hype. Who knows though?
