Credit is given where credit is due. Yeah, its good that there are so many people who are willing to vote for Obama even though they are white. But for someone like yourself (particularly seeing as how you live in Germany) to pretend as if race has not, and is not still a huge issue in this country is fuckin retarded. Youre so quick to accept generalizations about others, but as soon as there is a generalization about white people being racist, you fight it to the death lol. All white people are not racist, obviously...or none of them would vote for him. But there are still a HUGE amount of white people who will vote against him because he IS Black. What I wonder is why you dont give credit to Obama for making this far, rather then giving credit to white people for allowing him to get this far.

Obama is given credit left and right, wherever I look. I'm the type of person who doesn't feel the necessity of giving something or someone credit publically, if the entity is already recognized properly. Like Jared Taylor said, white racists don't hurt Obama, as those people who never vote for a Democrat anyway. In fact, I think that rednecks, hicks and other openly ignorant, fairly stupid whites help Obama. When you hear news about what some backwards white guy in the crowd said during a McCain event, you want to be different. I can tell you, there's not a too small fraction of whites who are voting for Obama for the sole reason of not being seen as being like that. So in conclusion, it is flat out wrong to blame any possible failure of Obama on white racists from that point on.

Not a bad point, except people don't watch you as you actually vote. People look at who you say you're gonna vote for. Obviously that's nothing to do with KKK rednecks who either vote Republican or don't vote at all and prefer spending their time dreaming of the fascist revolution. It's about people who don't want to be labelled racist, claim not to be racist, but are actually racist to that very limited extent which might still make them side with the white guy when it comes down to it and no one's watching. I'm not saying this is gonna be the no. 1 decisive factor tomorrow, but it might not be entirely irrelevant in, say, North Carolina.

I agree that religion can be a true pain in the ass, but it plays a more horrendous role in other parts of the world. No doubt some people tell polls and friends they vote for person X and then go and vote for person Y ... the Obama situation is not unique in that regard. But like I said, white racists don't tend to vote for a Democrat anyway. So why get worked up over that? There's many whites who don't like the socialism in Obama's policies, but still gon' actually vote for him in order to sleep better. Obama's skin color might have hurt him on his way up, but it is not hurting him today. Just to evade mis-interpretation: I am not at all denying that there are people who will not vote for him because of his ethnicity and would vote for him if he was white. I'm just saying that, mathematically speaking, those people don't out-weigh the people who consciously or sub-consciously wouldn't find him as interesting if he was white and therefore would not vote for him. To blame whites for a possible failure of Obama is the equivalent of blaming McCain's failure on "young people", "white liberals", "proud minorities" or even "democrats". Not necessarily wrong, but very misleading. I personally think the mind-set of "Blame white racists for Obama's possible failure" is extremely corny, and more of an attack on whites in general than a rational analysis of the situation.

I just want to state that important political strategists of the 60s-80s has shaped the current two major political parties. The hardcore christian vote has benefited both parties in different eras. The Civil Rights movement split the Democrats, basically all the progressives stayed with the party and majority of the Southern Democrats left the party. All of that led Republican Strategist to figure out a way to get the racist Christian vote with the party's platform as a form of guideline, specifically in the South. Cutting programs, cutting taxes, etc became an abstract version of I hate niggers. What Obama is showing is just how the country's political ideology can shift so quickly thanks to the fuck ups of one president.
