How Many Of Y'all...(Digital Download Related)
« on: November 17, 2008, 07:32:15 PM »
Actually pay for digital downloads? like you'll buy MP3s from Itunes, Napster, Amazon, etc? even whole albums from those retailers..Just curious to see if the paid digital download age has had any help at all with sales..

especially west coast..

I started to lately. I for the most part like hard copies with inserts and booklets, etc. But I purchased Crooked, Squeak Ru and Roscoe digitally so it's all good.

I been coppin' digitally for a while now. I just got sick of searching for stuff online for free and gave in and started coppin'. Feels better too when you support the artist, especially the dudes that aren't on major labels. To be honest I cop real CDs so rarely now, that it doesn't even phase me anymore not having the cover work and stuff. What am I supposed to do with it anyway? LOL.

Nope. Here's how I maneuver...

I download everything I'm interested in off sites like rapgodfathers.com and shit like that. If I really like the album and its from an artist I like and respect (ie: Game, Cube, etc) then I'll buy the cd. If its decent or theres just a few songs I like then I'll keep those songs and put them on my ipod or a mix cd for the car.

I don't pay for mp3s. Never have, never will. Its ridiculous.

Don't use Itunes... not opposed to buying digitally but really haven't yet.

Last CD I ordered off the net was K-Aktive's Funk Season.

If Bishop, Taje, Indef etc.. all put out their most recent mixtape/street albums in hard copy form with the covers and all.. I'd buy all of them.

I have bought some mp3's over the last few years, but I usually follow G.Boogy's example.

I only pay for it if:
1. it's exclusively a digital release;
2. I want to support the artist;
3. I can't find it for free download elsewhere

Number two and three weigh the highest.

I ain't fucking with that garbage Itunes, and I especially avoid anything related to DRM or any other copy protection system.
I also avoid sites that have some DRM-protected files and some regular mp3-files, and WMA or AAC is out of the question.
I wanted to buy some stuff from Amazon MP3, but they didn't want my money because I'm not American.

What I'd like to see:
A mp3 shop with millions of albums and single tracks available - mp3 format - properly tagged - choose your own bitrate, from 192 to 320.
Easy to use, fast to download, decent prices, easy to sort by genre/year/alphabetically, etc. if you buy the single, you can complete the album later at discount price.
Allofmp3 was such a site, but it's Russian owners set the price so low that RIAA nearly demanded U.S. gov to threaten Russia with war if they didn't take it down.  :D

As long as the "illegal" market is 100 times better than the half-assed overpriced legal market, I'll continue downloading, and buy the occasional album that deserves it.  :sshh:

What I want to know is if those CD's on Amazon and other sites are legit and if the sales go back to the artist or not?  Cause I rather purchase a CD directly from Bishop or Taje or Indef to make sure they get their money.
