Black Wall Street artist Juice is lookin' to stand on his own two as he prepares his debut album "The Anticipated." He sits down to talk with StreetCred.com about becoming a legend.

Juice on his plans following the release of his up-coming mixtapes:

"I want people to really see the grind that it takes to become a successful star in the industry and hear it as well, and then I’m gonna go ahead and follow up with my debut album called, “The Anticipated.” I feel that I’m the most anticipated West Coast artist since Game and I’m gonna have the most anticipated classic album since “The Documentary...hands down!"

Tanya M. Fowlow: Ok Juice, so you are over at BWS which is headed up by the Game right?

Juice: Right!

TMF: From what I know he was put on to you when he was on a tour and he was out in Arizona. What exactly happened when he was out there?

J: Actually ma’am what really happened was, I just freshly stepped out of the studio when I was workin’ on my first mixtape called, “The Bidding War Begins Part 1.” At that particular time I was dealin’ with a lot of stress; my girl at the time was basically tellin’ me she was pregnant and wanted me to leave this whole music sh*t alone. I ended up burnin’ one disk...one disk. I ended up goin’ to a club that night and had me a couple shots of Patron and I know that Game was in there with Swizz Beatz. He was up in the V.I.P. and I walked up to his security team and asked if I could give my disk to Game, they said “No!” Some other things was goin’ on and a fight broke out so, I slid through and gave Game my mixtape. Him and Swizz Beatz hopped in the Lambo, I seen him put it in the deck. Two days later I got a phone call and a plane ticket and it was Black Wall ever since!

TMF: Take the readers on a bit of a tour from then until now. What are you doing over there at BWS and how is it?

J: Basically, workin’ with Game is a real honor; I mean he’s a legend! He’s dropped 3 classic albums and I’ve been able to be a part of two of em.’ With that being said, sometimes you gotta make a decision to play a Memphis Bleek role or play a Kanye role: What I mean by that is you either be stuck up under the person that brought you into the industry or you become the person you wanna become...and that’s an international star. So, what I have been doin’ is creatin’ my album and doin’ things like that. You know doin’ things for Nike, and I just signed a Label deal with Omari Stoudamire in Phoenix which is probably one of the biggest moves for a new artist such as myself to do and on top of that I’m creatin’ a classic album.

TMF: Tell me some more about your situation with Omari.

J: Well, everybody knows I got into the industry from Game but it was just like sometimes you gotta create your own lane and your own legacy. Like I said, it’s been an honor: he’s taken me on 2 world tours, put me in front of BET, took me on David Letterman and basically stamped and gave me the approval to take over the West Coast. Bein’ a solo artist and havin’ a deal sometimes you want more and that’s ownership and rights of your masters and really becomin’ a man. So, workin’ with Omari Stoudamire puts me into a real boss position not just as an artist but as an executive as well.

TMF: I’m sure you get enough questions about the whole situation with Game and G-Unit, but do you ever get involved or caught up in that at all?

J: You know what, earlier on I did. I had a couple dis records towards a couple G-Unit artists but at this particular point I really think the maturity is shown in me. I'm really not too concerned with the beef, I’m just tryin’ to get to the money right now; I got a son and I’m tryin’ to be a responsible father and tryin’ to become a legend like the Games and the 50s and the Nass and the Jay-Zs. So as far as the beef and G-Unit go, I don’t really concern myself too much with it anymore; they got they own dysfunctional family that they dealin’ with so they can deal with they sh*t internal.

TMF: Alright. So you mentioned your son and that you are trying to be responsible. Looking at your music and the stuff you’re putting out; if your son was old enough would it be something you’d want him to listen to?

J: I mean honestly, the music that I do talk about is real life; it’s real life situations and sh*t that I go through as a man and sh*t that I see every day, things that I go through, my friends go through, my family goes through...so, real life is just a reality and I wouldn’t tell him not to listen to it. Now, there are some things that I do say at times that I’m not proud of saying but I wouldn’t hold him back from it though...nah! It’s just reality and real life and if I don’t express it and tell it to him somebody in the world will.

TMF: You’ve already mentioned the mixtape and you’re working on the album; tell the readers what you actually have out right now and what’s on the way.

J: Actually right now I just got done releasin’ a mixtape called “Death Certificate” that was nominated for four Justo awards: Best New West Coast Artist, Best New Artist, Best Mixtape, and ahhh ummm there’s another one in there. It did extremely well and it really, really labeled me as someone to be reckoned with in the industry. Right now, I’m gonna release a mixtape on All-Star Weekend in my city called the “The Position of Power;” I want people to really see the grind that it takes to become a successful star in the industry and hear it as well, and then I’m gonna go ahead and follow up with my debut album called, “The Anticipated.” I feel that I’m the most anticipated West Coast artist since Game and I’m gonna have the most anticipated classic album since “The Documentary...hands down!

TMF: When’s the official release date?

J: Right now, we are set for spring. I’m about to release my first single called, “Salute” featuring Bun B. It’s still goin’ through the fine tunin’ but I think that will be the first one to be launched out.

TMF: So, a single with Bun B, I assume the Game will be on the album too, correct?

J: The Game will be on the album of course.

TMF: Are you an artist who likes to collab with a lot of other artists or do you keep collabs to a minimum?

J: I like to collab with artists but I don’t collab with artists just to do it. Like I said, at the end of the night I’m gonna align myself with the legends so I have a real short outline of people who I would like to collab with: Of course I’m gonna go with the legends like the Bun Bs, the Jay-Zs, the Nass, the Ice Cubes, the Raekwons and things like that. If I’m not goin’ to be able to collab with legends like that then I’d rather hold off ‘cause I believe that my music is to their level.

TMF: So who are we going to see on the album other than obviously, Bun B and Game?

J: I’m speakin’ with Ice Cube’s and Nas’s people and I’m gonna try to get Anthony Hamilton on it as well and I think that might be it.

TMF: Any other highlights about the album that you’d like to share?

J: Yeah man, the album is hot! It’s a late 80’s Dead President’s feel. I think a lot of people make music for fads but for me makin’ music is like a lifestyle and I’m speakin’ real life; real good descriptions that people can close their eyes and relate to. I think that it’s gonna be the biggest album of ’09 and it’s gonna be competin’ with the Kanyes, the 50 Cents...on top of that it’s gonna compete with The Documentarys, the Illmatics, and things like that. I think I got somethin’ that the world has been waitin’ for, especially from a new artist that’s about to carve out his own lane.

TMF: Let’s look into the future about 5 years from now and tell me what it looks like.

J: 5 years from now my city (Phoenix, Arizona) will be on the map and there will be a lot of other artists blossomin’... not just myself. I think Phoenix will be in line with the New Yorks, the LAs, the Atlantas, the Texas’, and the Miamis. I think that my stuff as a whole and a couple other artists from Arizona will be respected as some of the greats. I think by then I will have 3 classic albums, I will have a label fully staffed and runnin’ with platinum artists as well. Probably have my own shoe, my own drink, ...[Laughing]... and just have a real enterprise built by that particular time and really be respected and go down as a hip-hop legend!

TMF: [Laughing] Sounds like you’re a bit of an entrepreneur as well.

J: I’m workin’ at it. At the end of the night music is not just my only hustle; it is passion, it is my first love but at the end of the night I’m an intellect and I would like to cross market/cross promote to show that I am not just a hip-hop artist but an international star.

TMF: Any other artists from Arizona on the come up that we should be looking out for?

J: Um I would have to say 2 artists: 1) I have to give respect to my man Willy Northpole, he’s signed to DTP. I’m signed to Black Wall Street...Game and Luda are real cool friends so we got a certain respect for each other even though we from 2 different crews; so Willy and then 2) my man P. Thorough who’s an up and comin’ artist that’s gonna end up signin’ to me and Omari’s label here shortly so it’ll be a real good look.

TMF: I was on your MySpace and there’s a phone number on there...

J: Right!

TMF: A lot of artists seem to have that on their MySpace now. Honestly speaking, do you actually listen to any of the messages or read any of the text messages that come through on that line?

J: Oh yeah, yeah for sure man! I think in order to really be a potent emcee, to really sell records, and be a real artist you gotta keep a real connection with your fans. I have a reality show comin’ out called “Position of Power” to go along with my mixtape where you will literally see me on MySpace listenin’ to some of the questions people have pertain’ to me. The whole phone message thing is from a company called SayNow.com which we ended up workin’ out a deal with to kinda promote them and me as well at the same time. I actually do listen to the fans, listen to their music, and I do hop on MySpace and check my messages ‘cause I think that’s the only way you can understand what a fan really wants and you can hear what they say about your music.

TMF: Hmmm, now if the ladies called you on that line would you actually call them back?

J: I gotta be honest, I am somewhat of a ladies’ guy as the women say...not me. [Laughing]

TMF: [Laughing]

J: You know what, sometimes I pop-up and say, “How you doin’?” just to make somebody smile but I’m really focused on music and business right now. I do have a son and I’ll stop it there...

TMF: So you want the ladies to know you are really not available?

J: [Laughing] I’m not saying that...I’m just sayin’ I am a real low key person and I focus on business. When that right lady does come across hopefully I get to meet her but, until then that’s it...[Laughing]

TMF: [Laughing] Ok, I’ll stop with the questions about the ladies.

J: [Laughing]

TMF: You’ve been on some tours and show circuits recently; if you have to highlight some of them which ones would you say have been the most rewarding or ones that you have enjoyed the most?

J: I’ve been on two world tours; of course, I did the BET Hip-Hop awards with Game...we were supposed to do it this year (me, him and Ice Cube) but unfortunately his sister got shot so we had some family things that we had to take care of and we wasn’t able to make it but...I did perform on David Letterman with Game which was a real major look. I’ve done England when we performed for the Prince out there. So, I would say England, Ireland, BET Awards, and David Letterman are probably some of the biggest looks and some of the funnest times that I had performing.

TMF: I feel that. Let’s finish this up now. Any final words or things you’d like to slip in...final comments to share?

J: Yeah. Juice is the real deal, the new best of the West Coast, the heir to the Black Wall Street dynasty, the Arizona crown-holder himself! Game is really hangin’ up his mic for a specific reason, and one of the reasons is ‘cause he ran into a kid named Juice who could take it to another level. Havin’ Game and havin’ Omari, two of the biggest names in the industry, co-sign me is a real good look for myself. I am the real deal and nothin’ lukewarm. Hum, I liked dude when he first hit the scene on BWS Journal 1 and several of the following records he released but then he started to adopt that Game style of damn name dropping and unreasonable ego proppin'.  I thought his mixtape was trash as well.

Dude's got a good voice and a nice flow.  He can make lame shit sound hot but the lyrics still have to be semi-decent.  I don't know.  I"ll wait to judge when I hear the official product.
