I believe it's best for both the fans and Dre that he waits until it "sounds right" or scrap it,than give us something neither Dre or the fans will be pleased with.

With Dre, he knows that if it sells 8 million copies and it's not up to the expectations of those people then it will damage his legacy. Detox will drop. As Stat, Bruce Williams, and countless other people around Dre have pointed out, Interscope would never allow Dre to just shelf an album that could potentially be their biggest selling album in many years.

I don't know what kind off deal Dre has with Jimmy/Interscope/Aftermath...
Dre sold (most off) Aftermath to him apparently,which was was a smart move if you look at todays climate....
but if it means that Dre looses his right to his masters if he gets dropped then I don't know.
For what we know Jimmy could pull a Suge and put out the many (rumored) versions of Detox recorded... and cash in without Dre's  involvement 
So like I said,I think Dre and the fans is better off canceling the whole thing if it don't  "sounds right" for him,Dre can afford to pay whatever... (if that's an option)

I doubt he sold the rights to his personal masters, that would be just plain stupid. Besides, would it be such a bad thing if Jimmy released 20 versions of Detox? At least we would know the styles of different versions and why he scrapped them...as long as they don't remix them with Amaru staff, it should be good.
