Griz, Blazers talking over Conley, Outlaw
But no deal likely soon for Conley

Memphis suddenly is becoming the place for dormant deals.

Yahoo.com reported Saturday that although nothing is imminent, the Griz and Portland Trail Blazers have held ongoing discussions about a trade that would essentially swap Mike Conley for Travis Outlaw.

Those discussions, which began during the summer, continued through the first week of the season and have been dead for the past month.

The proposed deal began as a player-for-player swap involving Conley and Outlaw. At one point, Memphis was willing to include Hakim Warrick and asked for point guard Steve Blake. The Blazers countered with guard Sergio Rodriguez, who the Griz deemed a poor fit with their plans.

A team source said the Griz don't have anything brewing on any front. The source predicted that the roster would remain the same for a while, and didn't anticipate any substantive talks before Feb. 1.

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.

It's possible that Portland could come calling again. The Blazers have expressed interest in Conley mainly to reunite him with former Ohio State teammate Greg Oden. Both players are represented by Mike Conley Sr., who works with noted agent Bill Duffy.

This is the second significant trade proposal that fell dormant with the Griz. They had talks with the New York Knicks about acquiring forward Zach Randolph. Memphis offered Marko Jaric and Darko Milicic, but New York declined after weeks of talks.

Randolph was recently dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Turf, whatchya think bout this shit?

They probably figured that they might get Oden to score a basket once in a while if they add someone to the team who knows how to spoon-feed him. I think it's a good move, there's got to be a lot of tension in the locker room already.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Conley's game hasn't really translated well to the NBA yet...maybe it can change in Portland, but I thought Travis Outlaw was coming along nicely. I guess with Martell Webster back, Portland wont really need him...Then again, they have a lot of serviceable point guards as well. This trade can turn out good or bad for both teams.

LOL not this again. This will never happen. Wishful thinking on Memphis' part. Pritchard has declined every incarnation of this deal. We don't want Conley.
