Illuminati 2G kicked it with Bay reps Dem Hoodstarz for a exclusive interview. We discuss their new album, Black Friday, the Wake It Up tour they are on with E-40, the state of Bay Area hip hop and much more so check it out.

Illuminati 2G is here with Dem Hoodstarz how's it going?

It's good man. We over here playing this NBA 2K getting our ass whupped and all that good shit.

Why don't you guys introduce yourself to everybody.

I'm Scoot, the dark one.

I'm Band-Aid, the other one (laughs)

How did you guys get your start in hip hop and who are some of your musical influences out there?

We started off back in the day, we have been doing this for many moons. Our influences came really from the west coast. The NWA days, old school Too $hort, the E-40's, Spice 1, just the whole roots you dig what I'm saying? That is what we starting off listening to but as we got older, we listen to the south, we listen to the east, we listen to everybody.

How did you guys end up linking up with E-40?

We been knowing E-40 for a long time and we just did a song with him called Ugh, it was a remix for our album, but we never put the song out. We did actually do the video for it, and ever since then our chemistry has been so good and we just reached out to him. We decided to do a tour and we wanted 40 to be a part of it, he is the Ambassador Of The Bay. He was all the way with that and we made it happen.

Let's get into the new album, Black Friday. What details can you give about it. Do you have a release date set, guest appearances, producers?

Man we got a host of guest appearances. We got a gang of new producers, giving them a chance to get heard and they keep it 100. They kinda like been hotter than the old producers. We got a couple beats from this dude named Calypso, that's my guy, we got a producer named Zaytoven who produced a track called I Got a Problem featuring Gucci Mane who we got to do a track for us. So pretty much we got a bunch of different producers, some home grown producers, some Bay Area producers. Herk The Jerk, shout to to him. And we got some features on there too, like I said we did a song with Gucci Mane. We went to Georgia and did a song with Gucci that is a good look. We got 40 on the album, we got $hort on the album, Glasses Malone, Red Cafe, we pretty much reached out on this one.

Tell me a little bit about how your first single, Code Of The Streets came about for you guys.

Well actually our dude who made the beat, he go by the name of B-Geezy from West Oakland, he actually made the beat with the hook, and he gave it to a producer by the name of Traxamillion to give to us and we did not have no way of getting in contact with him so Trax called us and was like I got a fire beat for yall with a hook already on it that fit yall. When we heard it, we just took off from there. We knew what to do with it and that is exactly what we did. It was the code of the streets, it was us.

How would you say this album compares to any of your previous work that you guys have put out?

Probably like any other artists we have matured a whole lot.We have not put out an album in 2 years. We been doing mixtapes and alot of features, a little bit of acting and film, just trying to do a little bit of everything. We changed the subject matter and got a little more deeper and giving people a better idea of what the Hoodstarz is about. It's a wide range and variety of different songs and different topics and real life.

So in other words we not just on one street, we not just talking about what's going on in the streets or money or cars or jewels.

That is a big part of it

Oh it is definitely a big part of it, we got it on there, but we saying that we got other stuff also that is going to shine a whole lot of light, where they really going to get to know who the Hoodstarz is and who we about.

What are your thoughts on the state of hip hop in the Bay and the west coast as a whole? You guys happy with what's coming out, you think it needs more substance, what are your thoughts on the music right now?

This is Band-Aide, the music it has took a whole left turn. The industry done took a whole left turn, everything in general. You got alot of people who is not happy with hip hop, you got alot of people who are because it is not just about MCing anymore. You got the people that like it because now swag is introduced to it, but as far as my point of view, it's kind of hard to pinpoint anything because the internet done took over alot of stuff and made it to the point where you got to have a single really to sell, which is really like for ringtones and things like that. It's like you might not like the way that it is going, but it's generating another avenue as far as making money like ringtones and stuff like that.

You guys had spoke earlier about the Wake It Up Tour. How did that whole tour come about?

The tour already started. We had a show in San Bernardino. The tour came about because 40, he the Ambassador Of The Bay, he got the Wake It Up with Akon that has a big push going on and we right behind so it was only right for us to come together with the Ambassador Of The Bay, Big Rich and the Hoodstarz so it was only right for us to do it and try to make it happen for the west coast one time.

What's the best way people can get a hold of you guys? Myspace information, website, anything you want to get out there to the people.

Our myspace is www.myspace.com/demhoodstarz. You can get at on the myspace or get at us at www.hyphy.com. Myspace is a powerful tool right now, you can get at us directly from there. Just call Band-Aide ya feel me (laughs)

Alright well that is all the questions I have for you. Big shoutout to Brandon and Jessica from Echoing Soundz for setting this interview up. Do you guys have any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?

We just want to let everybody know that the Black Friday album is dropping soon. It got pushed back, it was originally supposed to drop on November 25th, but we pushed it back till the 1st Quarter. We got a couple videos on YouTube, www.worldstarhiphop.com. If That Ain't Gangsta featuring Big Rich, we got another song on there with J-Diggs he is from Thizz Camp. If you put in us with J-Diggs, I am pretty sure the video will pop up. But we are going to shoot half our album all video so yall definitely be on the lookout for all that. Stay posted, stay on the YouTube, stay on the Myspace, and we gonna keep all that posted.

Alright appreciate the interview guys

Fa sho, aight thank you.
