Why dont west coast artists albums come out?
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:03:02 PM »
The sheer amount of talent to be found in the west right now is unheard of.Even new York in its hayday didn't produce this amount of talent. But the albums never come out.A lot of them get major deals but nothing comes of it.Look at the list of these artists that should have had albums in stores by now.sly boogy, crooked I,Clyde Carson, juice, eastwood, techniec, glasses malone, jay rock, lil eazy, knocturnal, bishop lamont,40 glocc, spider loc, mistah fabs atlantic album I mean the list just goes on and on.I've never seen so many artists have trouble getting an album in stores.

its the labels!! the west coast has allways had the biggest intrest and fan network, look at peoples like jay rocks videos, theyve all got million of views and the same for nipsey hussles documentary blogs, its just how willing the labels are too put money behind them to promote! look at clyde carson he could of had GUARENTEED over 3 hits by now, doin dat, one night, in da club etc, but for some reason it seems theyre never ready to release the album, if the labels would get there fingers out they asses and do some work then we would start too see some rewards! but its not just the westcoast, the east is in a WORSE situation

Clyde carsons 2 step could have been a huge track on billboard but it had no push at all.the west has the talent they have a built in fan base and the south supports the west.a lot of southern got a lot of love for the west.I just don't get it.nobody wants to break new artists anymore case in point look at interscope how they just dropped almost all their hip hop artist othe then 50 dre and em

Some artists hop on the first label they can find and soon find out that it is not fit to release their material.
Some artists can't create enough buzz so they keep pushing their shit back, not realizing that it won't help.
Some labels sign artist, but don't spend much on marketing and advertising and they think the artist can't create a name for themselves and drop them.

Basically it's hard to promote an artist on the West Coast since there are very few outlets. Listen to the radio sometime. How many artist do you hear from the West Coast? None. You think BET or whoever is going to give love to unknown artists? Of course not. The music industry is all about making money, nothing else.

West Coast artist need to do it like the old days. Work from the ground up. The problem is that with all the success the West use to have and all million dollar deals going around today, rappers are reaching too high. Hoping they can throw out some music and a label is going to sign them, release their first album and sell 500K. It doesn't work like that anymore. The West Coast is so underground that artist have to dominate the independent game and move their way up. If you don't sell well the first time try to promote and hustle your way to doing right the next.

Something else, I've noticed:
No one on the West who does get some success run their own labels. They're always focusing on their own stuff and the group's stuff that scouting new talent to build your label up is taking a back seat. I guess it all relates to what I wrote above about not having any outlets to promote music, but it gets fusturating. Where are all the entrepreneurs? Of all the big artists you have Aftermath (takes 6 years to release an album if your lucky), BWS (Game doesn't even care about releasing anything on his label), Doggystyle (I don't even know what's going on there). Nobody's even trying to create outlets.

Yeah snoop and game are the most disappointing to me because they have so much talent and their finger tips but do nothing with it.I mean both of them (and Mack 10) had techniec on their labels and did nothing.snoop has done basically nothing.I mean he gave us a doggy angels album not no soopafly koksne or r white...go figure.so I can see why a lot of new artists are mad at people like snoop.

Cats out here want to do it big, it comes with being in this hollywood atmosphere.  Most rappers out here don't want to settle and hit the indie right our get a decent deal and build from that.  They want the mainstream deals and the big dollars but its just not going to happen.  90% of rappers out of the west don't know what there doing and aren't going about this the right way.  Nobody wants to try nothing new even when they realize what they're doing isnt working.  Westcoast rappers are lazy, they expect everything to be handed to them and that goes back to the hollywood mindstate.

I think it's too many cats trying to go the major label way when that way is becoming obsolete in many ways. I think the cats who got it right are artists like Tech N9ne who always has his shit on the same store shelves with all the major shit and people like Daz or Kurupt who consistently drop new albums and projects. Cormega too. That dude went out and released his shelved Def Jam debut on his own label. Bone Thugs are doing that shit as well.

Fuck the artist if they can't get an album out. A lot of guys be impressing you, but none of them have albums. It's pathetic really. Look at DPG, or E-40 or Cube or Suga Free, a new album almost every year. Do these guys sell millions anymore? Do they expect to sell millions? No. They get a deal with some shitty label, and put out music for their fans. They ain't selling, and neither will these new guys. But at least their putting out albums. You can blame the major labels all you want, but the reason these guys don't have albums out is their own fault.
