Word, the intentions of the broken ceasefire was to provide a pretext for what is seeming like final push into Gaza to not only decapitate Hamas but to drive the people off the strip. Sorry to hear that your building was hit man, and glad you weren' harmed but it illustrates that those who run Israel are more than happy to makes israelis targets in their pursuits. You have raised this issue before of Hamas looking to thrash out a diplomatic solution and other than ceasefires and due to the fact that I have not looked into it, i was not aware that Hamas want a permanent peace, only the PLO.
The problem is that people make fantatics synonymous with muslims and yet on other forums I have posted articles from Haaretz ones which detailed in the Lebanon attacks which Israel was now guilty of being a terror state and yet despite the fact that it was written by a jew, I was immediately attacked as hating all jews. How dare I question the actions of the IDF, how dare I criticise Israel, apparently my softly worded language was an attempt to hide my real wish to see all jews die. I retorted to that and repeated something similar to what I have done earlier namely that I want world peace and that was immediately attacked to with "Hitler said he wanted world peace to". So basically I was evil for questioning the evil being perpetrated and that's the point, this is like a hot potato for a lot of people.
Now of course this is not the worst conflict, it's just one of many and is just another crazy event unfolding at the time where sanity needs to be restored but I guess that is just too much to ask.

Yeah, the tendency to create pretexts for itself is a known Israeli tactic. We did the same thing during the cease fire prior to the 1982 Lebanon war. Back then the government feared the PLO peace offensive, now they were motivated by a Hamas peace offensive.So I think the main goals were 1. To establish Israel's freedom to terrorize the region into submission (code name deterrence) 2. To retain the West Bank territories Israel holds in the face of Hamas moderation.
As for ideological fanaticism, I must say that the Israeli population seems to be very supportive of this operation. As far as I can tell only a tiny minority opposes the operation on principled grounds. Seriously, most people just keep repeating the mantra that this is a just war waged in order to strengthen the security of Israeli citizens. I can see how misinformed people can come to this conclusion. Our media is so conscripted these days it scares the living shit out of me. No one in the media seems to doubt the good intentions of the Israeli government vis a vis its citizens, despite overwhelming evidence that the security and safety of Israeli citizens is secondary-in our government's strategic calculations- to territorial aspirations and regional hegemony.

Hey geezy man, always appreciate reading your posts but to me at least haaretz has broken for some time this complicit campaign of the media toeing the line with many thought provoking and hard hitting articles, don't you think so? or is the haaretz readership not very big.

Yea you're right about Haaretz. Haaretz is considered relatively elitist and its quality is typically very good, despite the small Israeli readership. However if u look at the preponderance of Israeli media-specifically the major channels-they are all pretty much toeing the government line.
