How is making wack music growing up???
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:39:41 AM »
How is it when a rapper starts watering down his/her music considered by many people as growing up (as an artist)?? Personally I don't mind when a rapper tries something new but that doesn't mean I want a whole different style. I'm talking about keeping it with the times but still keeping it true to your original style. In other words, updating it. I find it funny when all these underground or no longer relevant rappers hop on the bandwagon & still flop. It serves them right cause they are leaving their true fanbase disappointed & we are all left with music that no one enjoys cause even the MTV audience won't accept it. When I think about Tha Dogg Pound the words "west coast" automatically pop up in my head but sadly whenever I'm checking out a new song of their's all I can think about is whether the song will have a hyphy or down south sound. Now I love the 2 genres of hip-hop I just mentioned but I'm saying just stick to your roots. 1 or 2 songs is okay but a whole bunch just takes away from the artist & leaves us disappointed. What y'all think??

The fact is no matter what type of music they make, some artists will always get more exposure and groupie love than the others. It's not even about quality. There are a lot of West Coast artists that are making good underground music. But STILL they ain't getting the front page. You feel me? Just check the main page of this forum. The topic with more replies is the one dedicated to Dr. Dre's "Could Have Been You" track, which is basically wack/normal. So a wack song done by a "famous" artist is always gonna get more hype and attention than everything done by a less famous artist, even if it's 10x better. I'm not hating, i'm just saying it how it is.

Yeah I know. No offence or anything like that to Dubcnn but I remember someone from the staff posting some news about Guru/Gang Starr only in the Outbounds section while Tony Yayo was making the Outbounds & West coast section. When I asked why I got a weak excuse "cause Yayo has a much larger appeal" ::) Ummm your boy Tony Yayo only went gold. Gang Starr been going gold before Tony even started rapping.

^ No doubt. But the problem is not this forum or dubcnn.com. Let's be real. If they start posting news only about underground rappers who are keeping it real and they start to ignore Snoop, 50 Cent, Yayo, Eminem etc.. they'll loose more than half of the contacts. They just do a good job posting what most of the people in here wanna read. The problem is that more than half of the people in here wanna read the same old things about the same old rappers, and they care about their music even if they fell the fuck off and they are disrespecting their roots and their legacy. We (the fanbase) make dubcc and dubcnn. More than Nima, Overseer, etc.. They just give us what the majority of us want. ;)

^True, it's over for some of these rappers & some people need to just let it go.
