Brand out for season with shoulder injury

By DAN GELSTON, AP Sports Writer 52 minutes ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Elton Brand’s first season in Philadelphia is over.

Brand will have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder Monday, reducing the 76ers’ marquee free-agent to only 29 games. Brand was first injured Dec. 17 against Milwaukee and has played in six games since his return.

He signed a five-year deal worth nearly $80 million in July and averaged only 13.8 points and 8.8 rebounds in 29 games. Brand missed all but nine games of last season with a torn Achillies’.

Brand had an MRI after sitting out the second half of a 100-99 loss to Boston on Tuesday night. The Sixers first said Wednesday the test revealed no new damage to his right shoulder, and he could play against Indiana on Thursday night

The MRI results were reviewed by team doctor Jack McPhilemy and Dr. Craig Morgan, of the Morgan-Kalman Clinic in Wilmington, Del., who concluded that the initial tear of the labrum in Brand’s right shoulder is responsible for a considerable decrease in the range of motion and instability.

The surgery is scheduled for Monday at the Wilmington Surgery Center.

“Elton wanted to do whatever he could to get back on the court and initially elected to forgo surgery in order to help his teammates,” team president Ed Stefanski said. “He worked as hard as he could over the past six weeks to return, however the scope of the injury would not allow it.”

Stefanski planned to address the situation at a Thursday evening news conference.

The Clipper curse lives.  Once you leave the Clippers on bad terms, you run into a little bad luck.  You could be great on the team, you diss them in any way you become a washed up has been, you could get severely injured & cost the team the playoffs or great success in the playoffs.  If you're gonna leave the Clippers, make sure its on great terms.
Brand-this incident
Ron Harper-said playing for the Clippers was like being in jail.  And when someone asked him about the Clippers, he gon ask,'The Clippers?'  "What's that?"  Rest of his career, a ham & egger who doesn't average 20+ pts a game no more.
Danny Manning-wanted out badly, gets on the no.1 seed Hawks, they never get past 2nd round again.  Ends up on the Suns, season ending injury cost the Suns the finals when they shoulda went against the Magic.
Dominique Wilkins-was too greedy, went to the Celtics instead of Orlando...team got swept by the Clippers :D ;D  got booed by the Chowds when Clippers held him to 2 pts.
Malik Sealy-was a somebody with the Clippers, said when he went to another team that its great to be back in the NBA >:( .  When he was in the NBA pacers, only time I & others heard of him was on NBA Jam 2[arcade game].  Was not a factor after the Clippers & the tragedy that followed.
Danny Ferry-nothing great about him.  Clipper fans should not boo him, they got Loy Vaught out of the trade.  Wonder what he's doing now.
Brian Williams-what I didn't like was that he wanted $100 million.  I liked the guy but he wasn't $100 milliion good.  He left, i know he had problems in his past & sadly he & his gf ended up like Natalee Holloway....sea animal food :(
Maurice Taylor-also wasn't $100 million good & his post Clipper career wasn't that great either.
That's all I can remember right now.

Yeah he never really fit in with the Sixers, it forced everyone into positions they're not comfortable at (Iguodala at SG, T.Young at SF). But I think he'll fit in when he gets back next year. They just need to develop some team chemistry.

Honestly...the jerkoff deserves this for his backstabbing antics against the Clips. You know Sterling is laughing his ass off at all this...and you KNOW Brand wishes he woulda stuck with the Clips, as well...Clippers most definitely woulda been a playoff team in the west with him up in the mix.

Yep, & if Kobe had joined the Clippers with Brand they woulda won a championship already.  But remember the Clippers problems still begin & end with Dumb Donald.
