t-pain and kanye do not use the vocoder, they use the autotune.. The vocoder or talkbox, vocoder box is a an instrument, while the autotune is a fucking plug-in. Check out Dj Quik, he got tons of songs with the vocoder. He was mentored by above mentioned Roger Troutman

Alot a people get this mixed up...the instrument your asking about is actually a talkbox...i got one for xmas this year and if you youtube the talkbox and then vocoder you will c the difference...the talkbox is generally the Troutman sound, Bosko, Riley shit then u got artists using the thing they call autotune like Wayne, Kanye, T Pain etc thats a program based thing....vocoder has been used by Wayne though....like i said you tube it
